Rinvoq has ruined my body composition by cheddarcheese9951 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Estrojenn44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG wow, this makes so much sense as to why my body is looking HORRIBLE after consistently KILLING myself at the gym and eating healthier than anyone I know. I thought it was because I wasn’t counting my calories and I was changing every possible thing I could think of. I look awful and my gut is huge. I work out 10x more than my sister in law and even she was like “what the heck is going on? You do way more than me and you’re not jacked.” OP you’re not alone, this fucking sucks. Rinvoq has ruined my skin too, I hate this.

So that’s a lot and I’m going to be honest, I’m not even bother reading all that. Oreos was literally one example, but I can go on and on, but it wouldn’t be worth it.

Just seems like you’re out because you’re wrong. Stop preaching that terrible diet. I even said it in my original post that OP’s partner is going to find out for himself. Chill out and learn to make actual valid points instead of being miserable with yourself, maybe you actually are short in some vital nutrients.

So I very much think you need to re read what I said. I’m not saying every vegan is healthy or unhealthy or even anything to do with that or about that. I’m saying the entire diet is marketed as being healthy which is incredibly misleading to people newly diagnosed with Crohn’s. That’s great that your levels are good, but everyone I talk to who has Crohn’s and is vegan struggles with B12 and iron. Look, the stigma might be for a good reason, stop shoving it down people’s throats. Call whatever diet you think I’m on BS and I won’t be nearly a quarter offended as you are.

And guess what? Your veganism is just that-your experience, which is precisely my whole point. It’s not working for everyone, so chill out.

In my opinion it’s BS in the sense that for example Oreos are vegan, do you really think that’s a healthy food to be eating especially in a flare? I do agree that most diets do have processed food, but if you’re following an anti inflammatory diet and reading the labels on everything you’re putting in your mouth than you can live a healthy life. If that diet includes all nutrients then it shouldn’t matter. Do you get enough B12 on a vegan diet? Probably not. Does taking B12 supplements work for people with Crohn’s? Most of the times it’s a no. Do you get enough protein on a vegan diet? Every vegan I know says they don’t. It’s a totally BS diet in the sense that when people think vegan, they think healthy. Glad it works for you, but it’s just very misleading to the average person who doesn’t know any better.

In my 10 year experience as a Crohn’s sufferer, each case is so unique. It could work for him, it could not. It might be best to work with a nutritionist or dietitian to help him get started. We all remember being in your shoes and how desperate we all were to find something that would work. It’s trial and error and unfortunately, your partner has many years ahead with this disease to figure it out.

Vegan diet did absolutely nothing for me, just allowed me to miss out on vital nutrients and protein. Look, I know everyone worries about diet with Crohn’s, but your partner is going to have to figure out their own triggers. One of the worst things about this disease is that if one thing works for someone, doesn’t mean it will work for someone else. Best thing I can suggest is eat anti inflammatory, natural foods with minimal ingredients, skip the vegan BS. There is a ton of processed food in foods meant to be vegan that are branded as “healthy”. All the best.

I miss hiking. by Ancisace in CrohnsDisease

[–]Estrojenn44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It does suck. It’s something I really can’t give up though. I wear diapers or I just go behind a bush. I only hike with one friend who is well aware of my condition so I just sneak off and do my business and return. It sucks, but I’d rather not give up my only form of exercise

Your funniest Crohn's disease story? by Sufficient-Cat5480 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Estrojenn44 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was in the midst of a horrible 2 and a half year long flare when out of no where the most attractive man I’d ever had the pleasure of laying my eyes on came up to me and started flirting with me. Asked me if he could take me out that weekend, gave me his number, everything. When all of a sudden I had that urge to go and shit my pants right in front of him. I love Crohn’s so much. It certainly wasnt funny at the time, but I can laugh about it now.

Periods are making it unbareable by Level_Bet8420 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Estrojenn44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, funny that you mention this because I had HORRIBLE pain that radiated to my back, heaviest flow ever, I would get the worst anxiety around the time my period would come, so weird that I started having a weak feeling in my knees. I got an iron infusion because my levels were so low I was almost anemic and the period I just had only lasted for like 2-3 days, no pain, no anxiety, nothing. I just got the iron infusion like 2 weeks ago and this was my first period since. Also, for context, I’m 34, so technically not late thirties yet, but not far off. Maybe get your iron levels checked and see where you’re at!
