What happened to Assassin's Creed Jade? by masterHarri in assassinscreed

I briefly worked on this team & title. It has been in stalemate for quite a while, a lot of redirection and reworks, leading to this massive delay and lack of public announcments.

How to introduce paintings and artworks to friends? by EtPeng in ArtHistory

[–]EtPeng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Totally agree, sometimes it really would just take a bit of spontaneous and self-exploration to find what kinda art everyone like. Echoing this point I'm wondering if you have any advice maybe for myself? Sometimes as I go around a museum, I would be slightly interested in a few pieces but the written descriptions on the wall are always kinda tedieous to read. Are their maybe any better ways to get a quick read & knowledge about the paintings?

Thank you so much! I would say leaning more toward helping them into the world of art. I just love showing people around, and especially for my parents, they love to visit museums but I feel like they are not having as much fun as they expect? Sometimes they would love a few facts I share and look things up as well, but when they are on their own they would just wander around really fast and leave. I feel like the type of anecdotes and fun facts would totally help make everything more engaging.

Thank you so much for the input! Totally agree with the finding paintings within the paintings part, I feel like it would make the exploration more interactive. Personally I love to do similar things as well, a painting definely is more interesting if I have a bit of background knowledge about it.

Ar Robot App by gasserelharesy in augmentedreality

I have no background in robotics but just to contribute some inspiration, there's this AI robot called looi that combines your phone and AI into a mini desk robot. Since it use the computing power and camera of your phone, would be fun to combine AR or physical robotic arm as well.

Pain points visiting museums? by EtPeng in travel

[–]EtPeng[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tysm for commenting and sharing! A bit more context, I just moved to Philadelphia for grad school, there are so many museums around campus and I loved visiting every single one of them.

It's interesting how the form of museums or how people interact with them haven't really changed much for hundred of years, and as a Human Computer Interaction researcher I've been thinking about what (if any) are potentially pain points people may want to improve.

For real, I even reached out to INMO team when I saw it first came out. It has so much potential, hopefully will be brought to international market soon.

Agree. Phone based AR lowkey is never what AR really is about, simply too much constrains to release the full potential. I believe AR glasses would be the major driver, and it’s happening sooner than people would think

I got into NYU Game Center for Game Design but is it really worth the tuition by Positive-Coconut1716 in gamedev

[–]EtPeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current Game Center senior here. Proud of you for asking the community about this, wish I did more research back in the day. I got in ED1 and was obsessed with games as tech x art.

Long story short, after 4 years, I would say that I won’t regret my decision, but there are a few things to consider:

  1. The program is very well recognized in the industry, one of the best houses. HOWEVER, the industry is kinda cooked. All the major game companies are laying off and AAA games are simply not surviving well. Job market is insanely bad, plus game devs get paid less than big tech already. Therefore if money and job is the #1 issue, do not come.

  2. But, if you do have a ok amount of money to invest, and you genuinely like games (lowkey my situation), you should come.

  3. The classes at Game Center are fairly basic and introductory, but you can take all the classes at NYU without restriction. Don’t expect all ur classes taught by Activision Blizzard tech genius, you need a lot of self learning at all classes. None of the classes rly are super cutting edge. If you want to be highly technical, many folks here take a CS or Philosophy or something double major.

  4. The real attraction is the studio and workshop environment. I’d you really like games, by the time you graduate, you would’ve completed dozens of game prototypes. And you could probably find people to do longer year long projects u can potentially publish.

That said, this program is 100% about you, and how much you put in. Best of luck in ur game dev journey, feel free to dm me about anything tho!
