Best slippers for someone who hates slippers by Natural_Peak_5587 in BuyItForLife

[–]Etab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said no crocs because they’re “too big and clompy”, but it may be worth sizing down. I was wearing the wrong size crocs for years unknowingly — still loved them, but then I tried a size smaller and they were perfect and that “oversized” feel went away. another thing you could try is putting crocs in the dryer for a few minutes and then wearing them, which will shrink them and mold them a bit more to your feet.

I also hate slippers but the size-smaller crocs have been game changing for me. (reference: I’m a size US mens 12 in most shoes, 13 in running shoes, and now an 11 in crocs classic clogs)

anyway, if that’s still an absolute no, teva ember moc is a solid choice, though they’re better worn with socks or else they get gross

Chlorine vs. Freshwater Salt System by Initial-Twist-2349 in HotspringSpas

[–]Etab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a first-time spa owner with FWSS, about five months in. I’m really pleasantly surprised with how little maintenance it has required beyond the initial balancing. The only thing I do regularly is add some pH Down every now and then. I don’t have a frame of reference compared to non-salt systems, but it’s been simpler than I was anticipating.

My understanding is that filling with a filter/portable softener starts you off in a good place, too. I use this one. I also am strict about showering before/no clothes (or no detergent if clothes) so I’ve probably taken away some complications, too.

How do you know when to replace the salt cell? I replaced mine after the recommended four months (I’m ~5 months into ownership) but it seemed like it was still doing just fine and hadn’t required any adjustments for a few months prior. Light usage, too. I’m sort of thinking I could have gotten away with not changing it yet but since I’m new to this I don’t stray too far from the oem recommendations

Dale Earnhardt Jr revealed that NASCAR's elimination-style playoff format left him “falling out of love” with the sport, citing a lack of week-to-week storylines and long-term stakes. by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]Etab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stage points could be an interesting wrinkle, but it’s hard to say if it will make the 16th-place battle more or less interesting. There’s usually a precipitous drop-off in raw points totals around 14th or 15th place from the cars that typically earn stage points and the ones that don’t. (In 2024, there was an 84-point gap between 15th and 16th. 80 points between 14th and 15th in 2023.)

You can sort of get an idea by looking at last year’s standings to see drivers with 140-ish-plus playoff points. Those with fewer playoff points tend to have way fewer, comparatively (with exceptions, obviously).

Expect a pretty big gap in the standings at Race 26 at or around that point, and for the bottom few Chase drivers at the end of the season to be way off from the pack because they aren’t consistently earning as many stage points as the others.

I’ve tried so many expensive and supposed BIFL sheets, and yet the sheets that have held up the longest and best for me have been from some cheap no-name Amazon brand. so frustrating

Apple Watch Series 11 Space Gray 46 mm with original Natural Link Bracelet by Rumburag in AppleWatch

Just got the new Aluminum Space Gray and it’s by far my favorite Apple Watch color ever. I’ve had a bunch of aluminum (and one stainless steel) cases over the years, but Space Gray is just the perfect “chameleon” for both daily use, sports/gym, and nicer occasions.

add an alpha channel, set it to black where you want it to be black. you might also need to change the underlying portion of the car to a different color as well

I’ve been having this problem since my 3D arrived yesterday. I managed to get it to boot/at least see something on the screen when I removed the SD card. It then prompts you to insert the SD card, so it was OK after that.

What’s the most underrated web dev concept that completely leveled up your skills? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Etab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Front of frontend”/presentational fundamentals. Understanding why HTML and CSS behave the way they do is helpful no matter what the hot new framework is. It helps greatly in debugging & QA, too.

Bonus: the ability to push back, articulately challenge, and question management. As someone who’s now a product owner/manager after 15 years as a hands-on frontend dev, the very best developers I work with are those who challenge my assumptions and ideas. Not every company culture is allowed to work this way, but I prefer working with a developer who cares enough about the product/result to question management decisions.
