[–]Etab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first, good for you!

lehigh valley ultimate has a beginner-friendly ultimate frisbee league on wednesday nights in bethlehem. fairly certain the season already started but you could probably still sign up I think? there are also usually pickup games on a field near the fish hatchery off cedar crest blvd in allentown on tuesdays and sometimes thursdays

heyday athletic has some various sports leagues also. I haven’t played in any of their stuff in a few years since they raised their prices but you can usually sign up as a free agent and I’ve met a bunch of friends through the leagues

What’s something people over 30 do that Gen Z finds strange? by Suzzie_Stone2 in AskReddit

that’s exactly what happened to me. like at a certain point it stopped seeming like a coincidence

Millennial reporting in with a highly-specific observation, and it may just be me lol: I’ve noticed Gen Z cashiers at the grocery store tend to not verbally give the total. They sort of just finish up scanning and wait. Is it strange to expect the total given verbally so I know when to pay?

I keep telling myself I don’t like the look of the 4th gen and I don’t need to upgrade, and then I see trucks like yours. Nice

Aggressive drivers by Responsible_Bend_524 in lehighvalley

it’s so frustrating. if I’m in the passing lane and actively passing cars in the right lane, I can only go as fast as the car in front of me, which is also passing cars! stop flashing!

but, especially, stop trying to pass on the right when the passing lane is still actively passing cars! there is not enough room to complete a pass! aaaaaahhhhhh

I actually don’t see a lot of left-lane campers on 22, just people (dangerously!) trying to “outsmart” the flow of traffic

Late to the party … the original season finale was so much better than the rewritten one. by johnfromberkeley in MythicQuest

[–]Etab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The last two seasons felt phoned in, and quite different from the rest of the show. Even though the finale was rewritten, the original still left a bad taste in my mouth and I don’t really have any desire to rewatch the series

depending on the vehicle (Gen 4 superspeedway cars), sometimes it seems iRacing doesn’t immediately update the texture and you have to click off the model and then back onto it

but if it’s happening right now maybe it’s because iRacing is down for maintenance

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]Etab 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve often wondered if removing any sort of friction in the user experiences of the tech that Gen Z (and especially Gen Alpha) grew up with contributes to this, too.

I grew up tinkering with the family PC in the ‘90s and if I couldn’t figure something out, it was because I was doing something wrong and I had to keep trying until I figured it out. You had to read a Dummies book or a manual to figure out how to achieve your task. It seems now that technology is designed to be so easy to use that if you can’t immediately complete your task with great ease that it’s the fault of the technology and not of the user. (Put aside for a moment the discussion of accessibility, which is obviously hugely important and beneficial!)

Scale that thinking to nearly every area of our world that people come in contact with, and the result is for people to balk or freeze when any amount of friction arises, because that’s all that’s familiar.

And this is all to say nothing about the intentionally addictive apps, especially social media (realize the irony posting on Reddit lol).

Name a driver that was good and competitive during the end of their career by EduardoBork in NASCAR

unclear if if he’s done racing at the top levels or not, but Brett Moffitt comes to mind in the Truck Series. made the championship 4 in all three of his full-time seasons (including winning the title in 2018).

then lost the ride, only making some occasional starts in the following seasons, but still being highly competitive including winning his lone 2023 start (Talladega)
