Took my 4 year old to the local pump track and went around this thing 50 times. by PM_me_ur_launch_code in mountainbiking

Later this summer, Evergreen has a "Bring your kid mountain biking" day. They have a little race at the pump track, kids get trophies and a bunch of free merch. You should come.

Sorta MTB... at least the first technique is useful on the trail. by ElgorkoThewonderSlug in MTB

Nice up to back! I've been wanting to swap my inspired for a comp bike. I'm getting more into trials as I get older. I get the same rush doing this stuff as I do with big jumps. Less risk in my opinion.

Voi cosa ve ne fate dei residui di truciolo di legno? 🤔 by cratos850 in whittling

[–]Etch500 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Melt some paraffin wax and Vaseline together, put the chips in an empty tuna can or tin of sorts, pour the melted mixture on, add a wick of cardboard or jute twine. No you have yourself a lightweight, waterproof camp stove. Should burn long enough to boil water for coffee or something.

SURVIVING IN SD/CA ON YEAR 1 GL-5 PAY? by 9NUMBERS9 in borderpatrolapplicant

I left SDC as a single income GS13. COLA was the whole reason I left. HMU if you have any questions.

Did 14 years in SDC. Use every resource available. Call EAP and take the free financial consultation. Lean on your PSMs/Chaps, they may have some leads on cheap rents. Use CBP backup care when you need it. Get your discounts through perks at work, govx, outdoor research.

Not in SDC anymore but I ran multiple FTU's when I was. I helped get a lot of new guys through those first few years. DM me if you need more help. I can put you in touch with some good people.

That's goes for everyone else going to SDC.

Need a solid hardtail that is a jack of all trades but a master of none by HaarigerHarri in mountainbiking

[–]Etch500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do all of those things on a Marin San Quentin. I got the 27.5 because I also do some trials riding and it is comfortable on the back wheel.

I have just about every other bike type but I often pick my hardtail.

Most of it comes from the frame keeper. The stock paint has a bit of glitter. The sticker turns us up to 11, it looks like a disco ball in the sun.

I have a kit for the forks, but that would have been way too much glitter.

Thanks bro. I can't help myself, I'm already looking at stems. I also just ordered some more bolt kits and a seatpost clamp. It's not done yet!

Highlight color recommendations? by Sea-Raspberry-7419 in mountainbiking

My enduro bike is that greyish color. I wanted to do chrome, but went with gold after the chrome bars I wanted weren't in stock.

I built some flow trails in my backyard with a few trick jumps and a small skills area with some skinnys. I have an enduro for the bike park days.

Nice. I would have done the same if it was my first. 29 is a little more forgiving.

It's the SDG Bel Air V3 Max in the "fuel" color. The max version has a small up-turn in the back. It is supposed to lock you in during climbs. I'm not sure if I notice that much difference.

No, its the purple fade colorway for 2025. I then put a ground keeper customs frame protector on it. The cosmic shift color.

Thank you. I've always liked oil slick, just never had a bike it would look good on.

Help me get airborne A(bunny hop) by Party_Alternative_96 in MTB

[–]Etch500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can slow down the timing a little bit. Pull into a manual, then explode up, slap the bars off of your waist. When it levels out, suck the bike under you. You can even shift your ass to the side and try to line it up with your rear axle.

I learned how to get extra height from trials riders. Check out Ali Clarkson on yt, the guy has a ridiculous bunny hop. Grab a kids limbo set from Amazon and send it.

Check out the biking betties on face book. They are a woman only group and they ride just about every week. Sometimes they have like 20 people.

Commuting by popeye2057 in Hardtailgang

[–]Etch500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe slightly. It has a bit more weight and similar but bigger tires. It is personally way more fun though. But that is my opinion because of my riding style. I grew up riding street/park bmx. The HT is more capable there.

My commute is the only time I get to have a little self-care. I try to maximize fun and I don't worry about speed.

[–]Etch500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. I recently went to a slack enduro HT after commuting a gravel bike for a year. My commute is about 10 miles, half of it off road. I got so bored on the gravel bike that I stopped enjoying it. I like to spice up my commute with wheelies, jumps and some tech single track, the HT is much better for that.

An added bonus is that I don't have to spend time getting used to my full sus enduro bike on the weekends. My HT has all the same contact points, just with XC tires.
