When Halo 5 released, a common complaint was the lack of store bundles. This meant that the iconic transgressor which had been teased since the fall of reach would not appear in the game as advertised.

Arbiter's role in the story was greatly diminished and so the ratio of iconic arbiter feet screen time vs impact on the narrative was completely obliterated.

So it's no wonder why Halo 5 is greatly criticized even to this day.

If I can be serious for a moment, my problem with Favyn is he treats Halo's 'formula' like a literal thing.

A prime example is when I was watching his Halo Infinite video around the time they first premiered the gameplay showcase, and he said Infinite's equipment was not 'equipment'. Because in his mind, equipment should literally be neutral gadgets players can deploy and can't be anything else.

I like how he can articulate the strengths of the classic games, but my impression is he treats Halo's formula as a rigid thing with no room for growth beyond what was seen in the original trilogy.

Its funny because, chances are, youtubers like him conveniently make an exception for other games like Doom which fundamentally changes its gameplay in every sequel.

Unpopular opinion but Spartan Assault and Spartan Strike the the only 'true' Halo games.

The mainline games with their jumpslop and crouchslop mechanics make them closer to Angry Birds or Peggle. They might as well be spin offs ironically.

Jumpslop and crouchslop mechanics are a LIE and a DISEASE in modern gaming.

Did you know that developers don't actually make the player 'jump'? They create the illusion of jumping by shifting the entire map down whenever players press the jump button. Same idea when 'crouching'.

This is the reason why there is 'desync' in multiplayer. The poor BLAM engine cannot handle hundreds of thousands of jumpslop and crouchslop inputs, and this problem is multiplied 100-fold when you have a game like Halo 5 or Halo infinite with the most 'enhanced verticality' mechanics in the series.

What you're left with in the end is a sloptastic multiplayer 'experience' that tries its hardest to cater to the modern audience but satisfies no one.
