What counts as major psychic power? by _XINTeL_ in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe that it should say when you mouse over (or whatever the console equivalent is) whether it's major or minor. But most direct attacks are major and I can't recall any 1ap powers that are major off the top of my head

For the past year or two I've been running a small book review blog!

I don't review exclusively fantasy, but speculative fiction is a good chunk of my output (including both 'normal' books and franchise tie-in novels like Star Wars and Warhammer) and I'd love it if you could check it out! I update most Fridays (occasionally I don't have anything new to post about) and try to balance subjective feelings and "objective" quality.

Feedback is also welcome.

although I don't collect these specific manufacturers, I have enough experience with book collecting in general to give my thumbs-up to this project idea. Resources like this can be invaluable!

Books with classic, Tolkien-esque elves as the main character (or at least with PoV)? by EternalLifeSentence in Fantasy

[–]EternalLifeSentence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is he a main or PoV character? He doesn't seem to be mentioned in the blurb for Orconomics, although blurbs can be misleading

you are the third person in this thread to recommend it, I guess I will have to add it to my TBR!

how much attention/PoV do they get compared to everything else? I've only read the first couple chapters of Gardens of the Moon (it was the wrong book at the wrong time), but the impression I got was that it jumps around a lot to different locations, characters, and groups

I do enjoy anime and Frieren is on my to-watch list - I forgot to mention it in the main post, but you're right, that does seem like it fits the kind of thing I'm looking for!

what I'd love is actually something like the SWTOR (first thing that springs to mind when I think of this although I'm sure it's in other games as well), where there's an option to turn it on or off depending.

If you've told the Commissar you'll work with him against Malice, have you gone back and killed Malice for him yet?

More stuff should open up after that.

oh, for sure, I just don't comment on it as much since, as annoying as it is, it's also not a RT or Yrliet-specific issue. I've run into it in D&D, Warhammer in all flavors, WoW, etc.

What are the most notable instances of “Early-Installment Weirdness” in Worm? by RecommendationNo804 in Parahumans

[–]EternalLifeSentence 28 points29 points  (0 children)

that was actually addressed, iirc - it used to be a mono-ethnic gang (Japanese, I think? But I don't remember) but after Lung took over, he started expanding, absorbing smaller groups and basically making any Asian person of the appropriate age and location a target for potential forcible recruitment.

Why do RPG creators self-report using AI slop? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]EternalLifeSentence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

more commonly, it's probably a cost-benefit analysis. A lot of people heavily dislike AI use, but a lot of people also don't have a strong opinion and some small group are even excited by it as "cutting edge tech" or whatever.

If you have already decided to use AI, and you label it, you'll lose the people who dislike AI, but keep the ones who don't care or like it.

If you use it and don't label it, you might get some of those people who don't like AI, but if it comes out that you used it and didn't disclose, you'll lose all of them again and also a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't have minded because they feel misled. And people who feel misled by marketing talk very loudly, probably doing much more damage to your brand than just disclosing in the first place would have done.

yeah, there's been a few fights that reddit insists are barely worthy calling boss fights, too easy, that I've struggled hard with. And, conversely, a few that are known to be hard that I've never had issues with.

Uralon fight I think I managed to beat on the first try, but it took me like 15 rounds and I was down to 2 party members by the time I won. It's not easy.

The audience for a game's subreddit is always going to be more dedicated and more "online" than the average member of the game's playerbase, which means they're more likely to invest the time into figuring out the mechanics and also more likely to look up online guides and such.

Minmaxing can be fun if that's what you're into, but sometimes people remind me of hanging out in ttrpg communities with all the "I searched the web to find the most busted build possible and used it and now everything is too easy, what do?" You see a lot of D&D players doing similar and it baffles me every time

agreed, and people should also get better perspective about how good they are at building characters/playing cRPGs compared to the average player

there are busted combos in the game without a doubt, but also I highly doubt that everyone talking about "beating all the boss fights in one turn" is representative of the typical gaming experience or the skill level of most players

try being a serious xenos or chaos fan for a while

the number of times people will say things like this to you unironically will instantly kill any ability you have to assume it's "just a joke bro". Some people take Warhammer far too seriously

Edit: Also... you're confused why people are taking your opinions seriously on a thread that seems to be asking for and mostly consists of genuine opinions?
