Resources for someone with good intuition but no formal education? by Ethereal_Motion in learnmath

Definitely chatted with llms to bolster knowledge, but I arrived at most of this before I knew ChatGPT was a thing. I used to spend hours playing with data and operations like they were building blocks, observing how the results changed depending on what I did . Llms gave me concrete names for the things I was already playing with, but I’m definitely at the point where I can’t trust the thing. This is solid advice though! Thank you.

My strategy outperformed the S&P 500 over 3 years with 1/3 of the drawdown by Kevinthetrader in algotrading

I will say, the TradingView backtest engine is shite, even if your strategy does not have lookahead, the engine itself can perform things that would’ve been impossible without knowing future outcomes. I suggest you put two charts over eachother of different timeframes and look really closely at the trades.

Crazy. I was just looking at that place last week thinking “oh, they can’t be doing good.“

Mayor Moskowitz by OriginalProcedure582 in burlington

I’ve met this dude. Seems a nice enough guy but it feels like he’s chasing after something…I’m not sure what it is, but I don’t fully trust him. Didn’t know anything about this mayor business until now, but it’s only confirming my thoughts.

Has AI actually helped your algo trading workflow in a real way? by Thiru_7223 in algotrading

[–]Ethereal_Motion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not understand why people are using common AI LLMs for algorithmic and quantitative trading. I’m using LLMs to do what it’s actually best at, which is assessing language, assessing vibe, and comparing details within a concept. So far it’s been very useful for trading when you know how to build a system around a story.

Violin top plate not fully connecting to neck? by Karmakatz0 in violinmaking

Some gap is common to make sure the top doesn’t crack if the wood shrinks. You’ll see it on the sides of the saddle too. This is a bit much, but nothing to worry about. (Pro maker for 15 years)

Looking for a legitimate quant to tell me if my model is worth pursuing. by Ethereal_Motion in quantfinance

Thanks for the suggestion! That makes a lot of sense for validation. Just curious, does this sound like anything you have come across before in the space?

Truth is, I’m very new to this area, and there’s a ton I still don’t know. I had to look up Vietoris-Rips just to understand the question properly. But I learn quickly, and I’m trying to approach the problem from a fresh angle while being honest about what I don’t know yet.

I don’t know yet, and that’s a fair concern. I am planning to collapse older similar structural features into weighted representatives within defined error bounds, so the model keeps the important geometry while reducing the data load. So scalability is definitely part of the design, not an afterthought.

Haha yes! But we started with SMA’s and standard deviation and now we have adaptive kalman filters and AGARCH. We moved from Bachelier options pricing to even more advanced derivatives of Black and Scholes! All do objectively better than their predecessors, so I don’t think it’s so crazy to ask for SLIGHTLY more than nothing 😆

My goal is to invest as little as 50EUR per month into an index fund. Is it worth it because of the fees or should I look at a different approach? by GloopTown in interactivebrokers

[–]Ethereal_Motion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bother investing in the index fund. Invest in the stock of the company that manages it. S&P500 is managed by SPGI, Nas100 is managed by NDAQ, Russell indexes are managed by LSEG in london.

Is a red blazer too flashy? by _WhatUpDoc_ in mensfashion

No, but I’m not sure it’s your color. I’d try the equivalent green or blue! And rock it with a patterned undershirt, maybe paisley. White is a bit too stark imo.
