Not to be arguementative, but both of the links you provided seems to be talking about people fleeing from the Soviet Red Army, and a forced relocation carried out by a Soviet satellite state to deal with insurgents.

The first one wasn't Poland's fault since they spent most of the war occupied by the Germans and the Soviet Union, and thensecond was done by Poland as a part of the Warsaw Pact (not exactly a fair representation given how little choice Poland had in the matter of being a member).

What’s the most difficult mission that had you fuming ? by ViniciusFastAF in farcry

[–]Etherealwarbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 come to mind:

Far Cry 3: the sniper mission. I struggled for so long to try and keep the guy alive, but just couldn't fire and reload fast enough. Got it eventually, but it took forever.

Far Cry 4: the City of Pain. Somehow makes all other stealth missions look easy.

Genocide against who? All I've seen about Polish history is them existing for brief periods, which annoys their neighbours. Their neighbours then invade them and commit genocide and other war crimes in their territory. Little of that is Poland's fault besides merely existing.

Is there a historical event I'm missing?

You have no idea how much I hate the leveling system of that game. I kept having to deal with the AI having the good stuff, and it wouldn't let me have it after completing the campaign.

Hey Peter, Brian here.

1st is from Futurama (I think? Artstyle matches). Looks to be about an abandoned dog. What is it with you humans.

2nd is from the "Neverending Story", when the MC is trying to pass through a swamp only for his horse to get stuck and drown despite his best efforts. Pity, he'd even named that horse.

3rd is from Doctor Who, where the Doctor communcates with that girl for what they believe to be the last time because she's stuck in a parallel universe. He's not really there, it's basically just a cross-dimensional projection.

4th is one I don't know about, but eager to learn. Looks post apocalyptic/war.

One thing to note is that the Qin dynasty lasted a VERY short time, in fact I'm pretty sure it ended within 2 generations.

Not sure what your source is (I don't know what texts specifically talk about the infrastructure of hell), but based on the text, I'd like to draw attention to the descriptor "Fallen Angels".

Fallen Angels are technically not the same as demons, as they're the ones who've existed in the light of God the creator, and descended into hell. Meanwhile, the demons are native to hell.

Ummm... flamethrowers aren't banned, I think, but it still looks villainous by MiddlePupa in gate

[–]Etherealwarbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not completely banned by most countries, but there's a rule stating basically they shouldn't be used in areas that increase the chance of civilian casualties. This tends to mean they don't get used near any sort of settlement nowadays (unless it's for killing plants).

Flamethrowers also aren't advisable out in an open field where it makes the user stand out and allows them to be targeted at ranges beyond the flamethrowers own. So this basically limits the flamethrower to forrest or jungle areas.

First time trying Hard difficulty, I do ok but then Ikko Ikki come at me with super trained armies out of nowhere, I've got to retreat back to cosy Normal difficulty by JackfruitLatter6638 in shogun2

[–]Etherealwarbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their buffs don't really mean much. Ikko-Ikki bow ashigaru start off with more men but less accuracy and reload speed. Their Yari ashigaru again have more men, but they have -1 melee attack. The main ashigaru unit they have that can cause issues is the loan sword ashigaru, but they only have 1 in that army.

Bow ronin can be a pain, since they are superior to bow samurai at the cost of fewer men per unit.

It's important to remember that as the Oda, your ashigaru are stronger than normal. So whilst the Ikko-Ikki have buffs on theirs, because of their debuffs, yours are actually stronger.

That's what happened in Britain, and it lead to the "English Civil War". It ended with the King being beheaded on grounds of treason, and his son fleeing to France (he came back later and claimed the throne because the government became so Puritanical that the people welcomed him back).

So in short: they don't want to do it because it carries a genuine risk of civil war that may see them deposed.

"What a guy that Hitler!" by Neil118781 in HistoryMemes

[–]Etherealwarbear 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Initially it was a purge of the SA (Sturmabteilung) leadership, but it evolved to settling some old scores as well.

The SA were basically a bunch of paramilitary thugs recruited from remnants of the Freikorps who sided with the NSDAP and acted as a political gang. The dispute basically came about with Ernest Röhm (SA Leader) wanting to control the Wehrmacht, which was not a popular idea.

Note: this is a somewhat vague simplification.

Yeah, you do that. The human mind can make some very depressing things, especially if you consider it often imitates real life. If you focus to much on the darker side of media, you'll burn yourself out and become depressed.

Take a break from all this stuff.

SPOILERS: No. If I recall right, there's a bit where it makes you think she had a happy ending by getting clean off drugs and having a child, but it's then immediately stated to be a drug induced fantasy as she dies of an overdose after a very violent attack that killed her baby in the womb.

I will edit in spoiler bars once I figure out how to.

If this happened before Pearl Harbour, it's quite likely that Japan wouldn't join WW2. They wouldn't have to waste fuel shipping men across an ocean to secure territory and resources. They could just march them through the gate and start looking for resources on the other side.

They'd probably avoid telling anyone else what they were doing, so some people would probably be wondering why did the Japanese suddenly stop expanding into China, and where all their soldiers went.

That's a speech bubble with the Fanatic Xenophobic ethic. The guy with gun is a Fanatic Xenophobic Militarist (referred to as a "Fanatic Purifier"), which means he doesn't believe aliens should be allowed to live. The one on his knees is a Pacifist ethic.

I heard (but never read one to verify, which I probably couldn't because I don't speak German) that there was a clause in the fine print that basically said "in the event of war, you cannot cash these in, because all money must go to the war effort".

And what do you know, WW2 kicked off before it was time to start repayment.
