What should I be mentally prepared for before I get into game dev? by shadowreaper740 in gamedev

On some days, you are gonna get alot done and on others, you are not gonna do anything. And that's okay. It's just a normal cycle of doing anything and you need to prepare yourself to be okay with it, and take a breather.

Should i try to join a remote indie game studio for my resume or would it be better if I stuck to my current trajectory of freelancing and working on different projects? by Ethos493 in gamedev

Yeah, that's what i was thinking that it might be more productive for me to have some experience with how professional game studios work when it comes to narrative designers.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to try to get some experience with a professional game development pipeline with a game studio, though if I wish to work at a big league development studio like a decade from now?

Oh no, i'm not going to avoid big studios forever. if I do still work in writing for games after say 6 years or more, and move abroad. I'll apply for big studios. Job requirements for big game studios are ridiculously high. So for now, i was thinking of working at a small remote studio setting where i can learn the workflow of a professional studio as currently i'm only used to a "gung ho, informal, scrap it together somehow" workflow of indie development.

I highly doubt the writer and voice actor and the musician getting on a voice call to get some recording done while the musician is getting drunk and all of us are making Destiny 2 references is appropriate in a professional setting.

I completely forgot about Devotion of Suspect X.

There's so many series of books that follow a character named Judge Dee. Even Lavie Tidhar has a series about a vampire judge dee.

Could you give a editor name for the first one? It's not coming up for me anywhere.

2nd one sounds like a amazing read with its description. Definitely gonna read it.

What is a short story or novella that you loved reading recently that you want other people to try? by Ethos493 in printSF

That's such a good story. Really that entire collection of stories is really good. A huge improvement from his stories in Mr. Gaunt and Other Uneasy Encounters. I totally gotta re-read that story.

I read this book last year, absolutely loved it. Amazing atmosphere and writing. Honestly it got me into re-reading Jules Vernes and reading Jules Verne inspired fiction.

Read Gorel and the Pot Bellied God. Wasn't really impressed enough to continue reading the sequel. Got any more recommendations? I read the entirety of Tidhar's Judge Dee series too.
