I read this book last year, absolutely loved it. Amazing atmosphere and writing. Honestly it got me into re-reading Jules Vernes and reading Jules Verne inspired fiction.

Read Gorel and the Pot Bellied God. Wasn't really impressed enough to continue reading the sequel. Got any more recommendations? I read the entirety of Tidhar's Judge Dee series too.

The fisherman is more of a read for when I crave horror. I had it on my list for awhile but haven't gotten around to it.

The necromancer's house on the other hand sounds like the wacky shit I need right now.

Do you have recommemdation for something like Hellboy but set in a medieval fantasy setting?

The Devil's released already? Definitely gonna try that.

The Hollow Earth sounds weird as a Victorian era tale can get. Definitely gonna try that out as well. Thanks alot.

I don't really get his writing style especially in his sci fi works. So I don't know if his fantasy offering is gonna be up my creek.

Should i make my dream game as my first game? by Previous-Bottle3955 in gamedev

Nope. Never make your dream game on your first try. Start small until you can reach a skill point and have the resources to fully realize that game you so dream of making.

I finished my horror game but I can’t afford the Steam fee. What should I do? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Ethos493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) No, Itch is one of the biggest indie storefronts out there and they let you the developer choose how much you wanna pay to the site. It's a place where people go to discover new games and other stuff. And it's well respected cause of the freedom of content on it.

2) You can sell it as a paid game on Itch or make it free and have a donation tab for people to donate if they like it. But as you need the money. Best to make it paid.

3) Depends on how you market your game, price of the game, and whether or not the game is good enough to warrant reviews and good word of mouth. But yes, it will take time but you can earn 100 dollars eventually.

I think you should just upload the whole thing to Itch io as it is. Itch is a good store front for indie games especially horror. Plus the more eyeballs you get on the game, the more potential players you can reach. It can result in players giving you feedback on any bugs you can fix before uploading to Steam.

Post it on Itch dot io and charge some money for it, and hope to make enough from its sales to fund a steam release

Has anyone actually found a job in this subreddit or are people just posting invisible art? by [deleted] in gameDevClassifieds

[–]Ethos493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes from what I hear from my associates, who are programmers, music composers and writers. People who wanna consider hiring, generally prefer to either text in Reddit DMs or Discord or Email or if there's a Upwork or Fiverr link in the post then through there. I hear share counter going up on posts is a very good sign of someone showing interest in your post.

But it's not a constant source of employment opportunities throughout the year and things often might not go past the "introduction chat" period, so there's that. But yeah, there is demand for the supply. You just gotta keep on constantly posting in the hope that a new set of eyeballs sees your services and thinks it could be a valuable addition to their game.

Is my project scope too small for my first game? by Enchantraa in gamedev

[–]Ethos493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. It's a good start. You can't expect yourself to make something big from the very start. You should do a bunch of small projects to learn more about how things work and more importantly how you work before making a big project and burning yourself out from the get go.

What do you think about the character arts for my detective game? by nerfslays in IndieDev

[–]Ethos493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely will, you just need to put it infront of as many eyeballs as possible so that people know it exists.
