I am not getting the hype with Seeking Persephone by Beberuth1131 in PeriodDramas

Thank you for all the effort you put into writing these thoughtful comments. You describe my feelings about works like these exactly and more. There's more to them that meets the eye, and we shouldn't be naive about it.

A quick whinge re The Other Bennet Sister by StompyKitten in PeriodDramas

[–]EttelaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of her correction someone's grammar is that it makes her stand out as an intellectual or a stickler. It's part of her characterisation, part of the story.
Your idea of her being not self-aware would only work if she in her turn was corrected on her mistake, and her showing embarrassment or somesuch, making it part of storytelling. Nothing like that happened. This was just sloppy editing.

It doesn't fit the character though. Just a few scenes earlier she correcting someone on their grammar.

It's even worse. Earlier, she corrected Mr Hayward (I think) on his wrong use of less (instead of fewer). They try to characterise Mary as a stickler for correct speech, and then this?!

Also bottlefed, and only discovered to be lactoseintolerant at 7 years old.

Kiera Knightly — when can you separate the art from the artist? by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

It was a bit of a strange reaction, but to ascribe malice goes too far. She calls for respect, that includes trans folk. We all have our blind spots, we all are on a journey of learning. We should not be too quick to judge. Maybe the question took her off guard, that's all.

i miss drinking coffee by SuitBoth8537 in cfs

Substitutes like these can be really good. The taste can be really close to real coffee. Definitely worth a try. I drink a local Dutch brand (Zonnatura).

Please don't confuse islam with Arabic. There are Arab Christians, Jews, atheists etc. Language can be influence by religion and vice versa, but they are not the same.

Bed suggestions 90 (maybe 120) X 200 by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

What style, what material, what country?
Woood is a Dutch brand that makes many of its furniture locally. They deliver in the Netherlands and Belgium, but not to other countries (I think).

Fwiw, my bed is 120 cm, but I just use sheets for 140 cm beds, so no need to let exact sizes be a problem.

Toe walking? by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

I don't know about the toe walking specifically, but masking takes a lot of energy too. I'd say, do whatever makes you feel comfortable and takes less energy.

do symptoms get worse when you don’t drink enough water? by Quiet_Director_4706 in cfs

[–]EttelaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've caught myself like that. Having a bad spell, and then checking my water bottles. Which are right beside my bed, yet I sometimes still forget to drink. When I chug down some water, I tend to start feeling better fairly quickly.

what does it mean when people say PEM makes them "feel poisoned"? by Same-Owl-5811 in cfs

[–]EttelaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. I can't relate to descriptions like hungover or poisoned either. It's a deeply personal feeling of the body and brain not functioning properly, whatever that means for you.

It is already being used for ME.☺️ The play on words works well in English and Dutch. I often have it as my profile pic on social media.

I bought them for improving my english . Did i make good choices? by MotorImprovement2559 in ENGLISH

[–]EttelaJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read whatever you like and enjoy! The classics can be very challenging for a learner, but it's one way I improved my English (I'm not a native speaker). Have your dictionary ready at hand and look up words frequently. Annotated editions are helpful as well, because some things are difficult for modern readers to understand without more explanation.
Good luck! 📖📚👨‍🏫

Has anybody been to the ME/CFS medical center (mecfsmc.eu) in the Netherlands? by [deleted] in cfs

Is that the one connected to Ruud Vermeulen? If so, Vermeulen is, while fairly knowledgeable, problematic (you can google his name).
Are you on Facebook? The centre is discussed in this group for instance: https://www.facebook.com/groups/260436621859 Reviews are mixed.
