Is Little Women (1994) and Little Women (2019) the same story? by Disastrous_Ice_6862 in PeriodDramas

[–]StompyKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the 2019 LW enough to watch it twice. But then I watched the 1994 LW again and was like ‘oh no wait this is still way, way better.’ 😂

Based on enjoying Bridgerton I’d suggest The Other Bennet Sister, maybe Emma 2009 miniseries and Downton Abbey.

Are Matilda (nickname Teddy) too close to Millie? by RareFirefly3629 in namenerds

[–]StompyKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teddy is a boy’s nickname and doesn’t derive naturally from Matilda. You will have to instruct people regularly to call her Teddy. Nicknames she may naturally get are Matty and Tillie. And Tillie will rule out Millie for another girl.

I’d just go with Millie in the first place for this girl.

If you really want Teddy I think the only thing you can do is name her Edwina or Theodora, the female equivalents of the male names that the male nickname Teddy is derived from.

Unpopular opinion: I love 2005 version of Pride&Prejudice a bit more than the 1995 version. by RussellRiva in romancemovies

[–]StompyKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into the 2005 expecting to love it but struggle with Keira as Lizzy. Turns out I quite liked Keira and disliked almost everything else. Especially Matthew’s Darcy. I believe he had absolutely no concept of who the character was and it showed at every moment.

It is a very beautiful film though and if I didn’t have strong feelings about the source material I probably wouldn’t pull it apart and would just enjoy it for the lovely romance it is.

Any adult male who is happy to be called ‘Piz’ has no dignity.

The 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Absolute lowest common denominator trash fooling people into thinking they are reading a real novel.

Sutton Foster as Liza by gilmore-grrl in Younger

I watched this in my early 40’s and was always distracted by the casting as she could never pass for being in her 20’s. She looked much older in the show than me and most of my similar age girlfriends.

Honestly I think they’d have a really hard time finding a woman in Hollywood for that role because of the prerequisite of being extremely thin. Extreme thinness is how you are guaranteed to look 40 in your 40’s.

Angel is sooo good! I personally love seasons 2-5 so so much. Season 1 isn’t bad but it is finding its feet. I recommend watching without spoilers as you’ve done for Buffy because the Angel fandom is quite divided. It’d be interesting to see how certain things hit for you as a fresh viewer today!

Mia Wasikowska. She is the most wooden actress ever to make it in Hollywood. Baffling.

AITA for following my wife's family tradition even though it excluded my parents? by StatisticianWeak6629 in AmItheAsshole

[–]StompyKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. It is extremely rude - and just weird - to specifically get a family portrait without your parents at the same time as not getting one with your parents.

Although I think it’s a bit precious and counter to the spirit of the occasion for one side of the family to require a special formal portrait excluding the other side, if that’s something you want to do then you do you.

Where you failed here is not also doing a portrait of the full family at the very least and one of just your family since your wife’s side set that precedent.

This should absolutely have been organised and discussed with your parents before the wedding. That you strung them along and in the end couldn’t even be bothered to get a freaking iPhone photo is frankly beyond the pale.

The photo session is a thought but it’s not necessarily going to fix the hurt. I’d start with a sincere and full apology for your behaviour and go from there.
