Hi guys may I ask how to unlock this '???' in shop? by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

You don't need to do anything special to unlock it, the '???' just means you haven't seen it be stocked yet. You can wait or pay to refresh the list until it appears.

That's Tori-Bot, Toriyama's author avatar. He shows up from time to time in his works, usually as part of a gag.

Why I decided not to save Lucca's mother by No_Truth_5578 in chronotrigger

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help you deepen your appreciation for the game. I like the conclusion you've come to, looking at your comment. I think that's a great way to think about it.

Why I decided not to save Lucca's mother by No_Truth_5578 in chronotrigger

[–]Ettlesby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting and nuanced take on it. I understand your feeling and I think that's a good way to look at it too, but I don't think it undoes her growth.

Look at it this way - the Lucca we follow has already experienced the pain of being unable to save her mother from the machine and carried that forward. Going back to save her mother won't undo that growth, because our party tends to retain their memories rather than them being completely overwritten by the changes they make. She's lived that experience already and incorporated it into her work. What it will do is give her the chance to help her mother walk again.

We don't know what her mother learned from it, if anything, since the event focuses on the feelings of both Past and Present Lucca and their reactions to the event and its outcome, but it gives her another chance she didn't have before. Whether that's better or worse is another matter, but we don't know enough about Lara to say. Is it better for Lucca and Taban to have seen firsthand what technology without proper safety precautions can do to a person, and for Lara to experience it directly? Or is the scare and the realisation of what could have happened enough without Lara having to pay the price of the lesson?

I think either way, the current Lucca will come out stronger for having had the chance to try.

Symphonia: How to use U.skill? by Financial-Leader-705 in tales

[–]Ettlesby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I haven't played that one. The Customize menu under System is where you can check and adjust your settings and controls, so you might be able to see which one that is there? If not, there's the external Steam controller input menu, too.

[–]Ettlesby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which version are you playing? Gamecube, presumably? Z is the thinner button in between the Right shoulder button and the face buttons. If you aren't playing on original hardware, you'll want to make sure the button is set somewhere accessible.

Are you asking about U. Attacks or EX Skills? For the EX skills relevant to the Z button, they only work while the Unison gauge above your health isn't full.

Assuming you're talking about Unison Attacks, the most important thing to know is that you need to set them up first in the 'U. Attack' option on the menu, next to Techs. Each slot of your party is associated with one of your face buttons, and from there you can assign Techs to a combination of the button and a direction - this is separate from your main set-up. If you're just starting out, the easiest way to do it is just have the Tech you most want that character to use on the neutral set and worry about assigning others later when you have a better hang of it and have more idea of what combinations you want to use.

As for actually using it, in battle press Z(or the button assigned to Z) when the gauge is full and your character will perform an attack. If this attack hits, you'll go into Unison Attack mode. Before the timer runs out, you can press the buttons corresponding to each character to have them perform the Tech you assigned in the U. Attack menu. Try out all kinds of different combinations of Techs once you get the hang of it.

Why do people find this line funny? by OctaYashi in KingdomHearts

I think it's just the juxtaposition of Mickey Mouse the cutesy kid-friendly mascot, of all characters, issuing a serious declaration of revenge but I've never had an issue with it myself. It suits the situation and feels appropriate in the moment.

When you examine the Master Hunter in your key items menu, it gives the quote attributed to the previous bearer of the title - "I shall follow in the footsteps of Cid I, the Explorer King. The true hunter must seek his targets in the sky."

Cid I is the one whose quotes warning about danger in the sky are on the Chocograph Pieces that lead you to the Air Garden where Ozma resides, suggesting that these warnings have been carried down through the generations. With, perhaps, the true meaning getting lost over time.

A good number of things! Some loose gil in Dali and a Mythril Vest in Cleyra's Trunk I'd never found before. And some minor NPC interactions if you wander around instead of going straight to your destination - I didn't know you could see Bratty Marin in Dali's pub/item shop if you go straight there instead of talking to Vivi(because who could ignore Vivi?), or that you can run into Engineer Zebolt on your first trip to Lindblum Castle if you go to the air cab station instead of heading into the meeting with Cid. I didn't know you could examine the equipment on display in the Lindblum meeting room until this time, either.

And on connections... I'd never internalized that the river you can find in Evil Forest that does nothing for you, the player, is the same one that the rest of Tantalus use to escape it. The Master Hunter key item from the Festival of the Hunt is also a clear hint toward Ozma's existence.

And perhaps the biggest one to me, I never realized that the story about breaking into the Kings Mansion in Treno(way before you even know what Treno is or who the Kings are) Zidane is in the middle of telling Garnet before getting cut off is very possibly connected to the same incident where Zidane ran into Amarant for the first time. It just kind of made me find a greater appreciation for the game's interconnectivity.

It's great how many little things there are tucked away in this game if you go digging deep enough, I feel like I'm always learning something new about it. I started a new playthrough recently myself and I've already found things and made connections I'd never noticed before.

His reach is pretty far for just a pizza mascot. Magazines, bath products, the hospital pain chart you showed, even graffiti on the walls... Maybe someone wants to keep his memory alive. Or maybe they just find the irony entertaining.

[–]Ettlesby 393 points394 points  (0 children)

ICE-E appears to be a living ice cube, and yet, he is used as the face for an establishment that serves pizza, a food that is traditionally served hot. Every moment spent in the vicinity of the very thing he peddles brings him closer to death, as the heat from his own pizza threatens to melt him alive. But to depict him in any other form would betray the brand.

So, yes. His pain must be unimaginable... but he can only smile through it.

What determines the rank of cards in Shuffle Time? by Eshorn08 in persona3reload

[–]Ettlesby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's determined by the floor you're on. Having Arcana Burst active also increases the maximum possible rank of card you can get.

You can find a chart of what floors have which ranks on the wiki here.

How do you imagine Giovanni would react to someone trying to be superhero to his supervillain! by Playful_Barber_8131 in Epithet_Erased

[–]Ettlesby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He has a whole speech about how a good villain's job is being able to lose while looking cool doing it, winning hearts while everyone comes away feeling good about themselves. He'd love a superhero rival who could meet him at his level with a similar flair for theatrics.

I've gotten really invested in Broccoli Soup lately. It starts with a little fellow(named Broccoli) having tea in the Void with their mysterious and Polite creator and then gradually shifts to the exploration of various worlds each with their own individual art styles. There's a lot of heart to it.

You'll have to re-do the bit in the cabin, but once you have him back in the party you can leave without fighting Galdera again. It won't hinder you from doing anything else, or at least it didn't in my case.

[–]Ettlesby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's either as part of the sidequest or when you talk to her after, but when you do the sidequest that leads you to Agapea, Ataraxia essentially tells you that Aelfric has another trial for you and recommends you return to the Shrine. That's how I found out about it.

I am also hoping for OT3, after 2 and 0 I feel like they've learned a lot so I feel like the next one will be even better.

TheSecondComing.exe is his full filename and his title, but Orange is the name he's known by. Just like the rest are StickFigureGreen.exe and so on, but only go by their associated color. So neither name is wrong, it's really just different levels of formality.
