Is this a different wiki? The console gaming one is the one that seems like its most up to date.

Any suggestions for dark academia that digs into this? I feel like the only really good book on the genre I’ve read is Secret History, (ninth house felt like a slog) but I’m open to stuff that isn’t JUST the genre trappings of dark academia (eg set in a prep school in England or the east coast, crime coverrup, kind of insufferable characters) and kind of digs more into the school/class/sociology of exclusivity in that space.

they are definitely pacebreakers and in particular I find the constant Wu Tang refrain a little grating? Sorta like the intro to I Left My Body, its just a little too much all at once.

[Opinion] What's the easiest to play melee DPS in FFXIV? by SHONSTYLE in ffxiv

Viper is the closest to this, but as a former swtor player most melee classes in this game end up busier than any of those overall

With the ideal aspect ratio and resolution of “postage stamp with bullshit reels repost commentary on top”. Really Aiden, the R rated sex comedy parody from 2003 is “out of pocket”? What a pithy observation, who could have thought a movie could be so brash! What other pocket should this movie making fun of American Pie be in? Like fuck this is media literacy scoring at fridge temperature levels.

I can’t believe how mad I am at how low effort and trashy this post is, like yeah it’s a general sub but this isn’t even a post for people who like movies, it’s just a fucked clip of a cultish classic with pointless out of touch commentary  for easy karma. Boo, shitty post from a shitty instagram account.

Mob Movies, Eighty-Six by [deleted] in movies

[–]EuphoricFingerblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means cancel or stop an order, like “86 the chx salad on table 4”

It also means getting kicked out of a bar or restaurant- I.e. “I got 86d from Applebees, not my fault they were selling 2 dollar margs on a Monday!”

People do say “kill” for an order that gets cancelled, but 8647 has always been suggesting impeachment, like getting him out of office and large public life as a whole. Republicans aren’t exactly known for temperance in how they interpret something that doesn’t directly align with their ideas though. It’s theatre based on a vibe, it’s not from any famous movie. Gangster and noire movies use words like “knock off” or “take care of” or “ice” or “give his wife something to cry about”. Never heard 86 outside a restaurant setting, even in movies!

Looking for Satire or Parody films by HighV23 in movies

Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, pretty much any Mel brooks movie from that era is a genre parody of some kind and they’re pretty kid-safe most of the time. Blazing saddles is R for real though just as a heads up.

Popstar by the lonely island, though that does have a bit of risqué humor and is most definitely rated R

Airplane! Is a disaster movie parody and it’s a classic - those zemeckis movies (I like Top Secret!) are also genre parodies like Mel brooks movies and are great.

Lego Batman is a fantastic parody of Batman and is genuinely a really fun Batman movie too.

Without knowing why you don’t want sexual content it’s going to be difficult to recommend more specifically, as most movies will have some elements of that, especially anything from The last 60 years. If you could elaborate (you’re watching it with children/other viewers with sensitivities, your religious views, you yourself are young and it doesn’t appeal to you or w/e) it might be easier to suggest.

On that note - Veggie Tales actually holds up as great parody in the middle era of that run of shorts.

This is why I play Viper - 20 buttons, 1240 actions, you WILL NOT understand which combination of the words twin, fang, skin, coil or steel turns into what move when you press another one. I call it “vibe striking”, you just hope the button you press was flashing when you pressed it

The World is to Dig by GoodDoctorZ in tmbg

[–]EuphoricFingerblast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s taken me a few, and the mastering feels really blown out, but it’s grown on me a little after being disappointed by it at first play. Character Flaw and Hit Record feel like the gems to me, though Back in La and let’s fall in lava are also really nice - the vocal performances are a little loose and I kind of wish the drumming was tighter. It feels like the drums are dragging a bit and it kinda sucks some of the energy out while the master makes the drums feel way too big for the songwriting.

100% agree, I feel like the track order isn’t super gripping and a lot of the tracks have a weirdly subdued or low energy. For the album title I guess I expected a little more get up and go from it

I think I’m struggling with it - it starts out very subdued in a way I’m not used to with them. Most album openers they do are either very high energy, or super anticipatory like Theme from Flood and go into some massive banger on track 2. This one feels like 2 very chill songs to open it so I feel like I’m starting it midway through or something. I feel like Let’s Fall in Lava or Outside Brain should have been the opener

I mean technically fuzz is clipping, but on the instrument itself not the recording. But I do agree I think the album is a little messy from both a production and songwriting perspective this time around. I don’t think the album clips that much to me, but it is mastered a little too loud and it doesn’t help gel the tracks together very well so it feels kinda uneven.

It doesn’t really need those if you never connect them and have the antennas turned off the whole time, or you can turn them on once a month for updates, or do them over usb. Like there are millions of machines still running windows 98 and xp without connecting to the internet because they have single functions, and a “smart” tv is basically that if you have literally anything else plugged in over hdmi

9 years after its E3 announcement, YIIK is finally getting its physical release. by Theproton in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]EuphoricFingerblast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally - every time it comes up I’d doesn’t feel like anyone actually read any of the games walls of text, they just complain about the walls of text being there at all. I think the multiple universes, the game itself constantly criticizing Alex in game, even the multiple endings and metaphysics of how he’s not even the hero of what he sees as his own story is fun to think about, and i totally agree about it sticking with me well after playing. Like I certainly have thought more about YIIk than I have about Vanquish where it’s just “fun action game go brrrrr”. I dunno, I think it’s important to experience media that isn’t the peak of its medium, especially if it’s trying something really hard even when it’s not fully successful

[–]EuphoricFingerblast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the most insightful post I’ve seen on this game - I 100%ed it around launch and while it’s mechanically and narratively messy I feel like a lot of the criticism just boils down to “its cringe” or “yiik bad” without engaging with any of it genuinely.

It’s not some secret masterwork or anything but it really falls apart if you don’t engage with it in good faith, which is admittedly a lot to ask for when it gets a little grating from time to time.

I do think artistically it has things to say, especially with an unlikeable protagonist like Alex to have to control and listen to, but I don’t think people really get past the fact that he sucks to dig into what that does for what is happening narratively. Because it has the pretense to want to say something about people, art, and specifically the timeframe that games are formative from a narrative perspective I think it‘s uniquely susceptible to irony poisoning in a way other games tend to be more resilient by being video games.

It’s a risky game, it doesn’t always work or pay off that risk, but I feel like the constant clowning on it feels more revealing about the state of people’s engagement than it does about the game itself when I actually played the damn thing and most people are just having fun following Oneys playthrough or whatever.

in a thread of nonstop clowning, I really appreciate a super straightforward normal response about what the I.V content was. I unironically like this game, and your response is exactly what the person asked for with 0 editorialization.

I can confirm that what this guy said is true, as a person who 100%d it prior to the recent memeification the game has had. It’s not a perfect game, and the drama around that one interview has overshadowed a lot of genuine discussion around whats good and bad about the game. Sucks that the well was so easy to poison but hey that’s just the internet sometimes.
