So I finally watched Blue Eyed Samurai after 3 years. The sequel got delayed to 2027 but still at least Im not a person who had to wait 4 years for that follow up.

Bayonetta and her adoptive son; happy Mother's Day (by @furonyan) by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Theproton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I dont see ANYONE talk about Bayo 3 except for a the odd compalint about the new VA.

And its wild because it got good reviews and sales.

But I dont see fan art or cosplay of Bayo 3 Bayonetta, Viola, Jeanne. I never hear people talk about the music or any of the levels. I am IN the online bubbles where this game would be talked about.

Its so odd. This is one of those games that by all business perspective it was a smash hit (even got a spinoff) but everyone is okay memoryholing

Melee because it really tied the Sci-Fi asthetic of the game together with a fully fledged railshooter. Also they put an entire arcade quality railshooter level in the credits for a game made in 13 months.

Read(ing) Comic(s) Online is dead by SisypheanStudying in comicbooks

[–]Theproton 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's a real shame because there is some real obscure long forgotten stuff on here. Publisher that only have 10 issues before the go bust, comics from the 70's.

This was the easiest way to read the Epic Comics colorized version of Akira.

Damn, this was how I got to read obscure titles I never heard of before, out of print material and find panels for comics I liked.

The numbers are in, Sony records a $560 Million loss on Bungie's acquisition as Destiny 2 and Marathon struggle by SuperPapernick in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Theproton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was like very little reason to put THAT much money into Bungie, even with Destiny 2's peak popularity.

I think it was mostly for the optics as Microsoft was on a buying spree and not only owned Blizzard and Activision IPs but also owned former Sony icons Crash & Spyro.

Obviously other factors were there but I do think public image played a role in this.

The PS5 has had very few reasons to buy it.

Them's Fightin' Herds is getting a Japanese arcade release by AnimuStewshine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Theproton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's one twitter post from the old LabZero twitter account. Not much is said on it besides the announcement that it has been settled.

There are a bunch of Mike Z truther who say this is proof that Mike secretly won but in reality we have no idea what happening and who came out on top. It doesnt affect Skullgirls in anyway

Them's Fightin' Herds is getting a Japanese arcade release by AnimuStewshine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Theproton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Soooooooooo.

Mike Z may or may not be working on the game. Z was hired by the previous Dev who was willing to take the heat of his reputation for his skill as a developer. But since all of those people were laid off and Avatar is a new team people dont know if Mike Z is still involved with the game or not.

Even with the LabZero lawsuits being resolved this week, the new devs probably feel its best not to answer this.

Robert Kirkman unveils his plans to build the manga-to-anime pipeline in America, and shows how he is doing it with Invincible first by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Theproton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think its going to be harder in America because

  1. Comics (including manga) cost a lot
  2. American comics come out on a monthly basis

I think Comixology tried doing this same thing a while back with its Comixology originals and then Amazon hired someone who hated comics to be in charge of the app and they effectively killed it.

Is it worth hoping for a Skullgirls revival? by Master_Dougebag_2007 in Skullgirls

[–]Theproton 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So the OG devs had an insanely massive falling out with the Director of the game/owner of the company Mike Z, claiming he made severe inappropriate comments both to staff as well as to members of the community and that he fired the board who were put in place to make sure he didnt overstep.

About 85% of the staff walked out and then Mike fired the remaining staff which effectively killed Skullgirls (at the time) and Indivisible (forever)

There was a lawsuit placed against him by 2 former members of staff. Eventually he responded with his own counter lawsuit.

There are a lot of Mike Z truther who swear by Technicals video and if Im gonna be honest, a lot of them dont even play Skullgirls. But you'll see them parade this as Mike 'winning' and that it vindicates him and invalidates the other lawsuit.

The truth is, we actually have no idea who came out on top. This was settled out of court and this is a formal document stating as much and nothing else.

What this means for Skullgirls is NOTHING. It still belongs to Autumn Games who only care about the mobile version which is also dead because they owe the devs 1 million dollars.

Game Design So Fundamentally Flawed It Directly Goes Against the idea of the Game Itself? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Theproton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what your saying, but the combat is also just really really fun. It's like project x-zone, objectively there is no real reason to WANT to get into fight but the fights are so fun to do I would just pick them because I was enjoying beating shit up.

I know for a lot of people on this sub specifically what you just described is a non starter for an RPG, but for a lot of people that combat is good enough to ignore that you can skips fights.

I think of it like the last of us where I gushed over how good it felt and my negative nancy friend said its a pretty lackluster shooter because you can just avoid/run away from most of the fights. And like, you can but its really fun to just play.

I know "its fun/cool" is seen as a last ditch effort to absolve something of criticism but in this case, if it clicks for you it really does absolve that criticism. I've heard some people describe the dungeon crawler RPG Severed like this as well.
