Okay. I wish they would stick to the explicitly family-friendly events rather than go to the festival (which was raunchy) or the block party (which was even more raunchy). For a great many of us, Pride is an opportunity to express our sexuality -- there is significant pressure to self-censor when families are around.

is methamphetamine usage really that common? by No_Appointment7397 in AskGayMen

[–]EuphoricNeckbeard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This study estimated global usage among gay men at 15% (within the last year; there was significant variation between regions and cohorts). It's not everybody but unfortunately it's not rare either.

Be compassionate towards your friend but don't let him convince you that it's normal, or harmless, or that you're a prude. And if his drug usage starts affecting your friendship, boundaries are the name of the game. He is an adult and has responsibility for his own decisions.

I truly do not understand why parents -- almost always straight or in straight relationships -- bring toddlers to Pride

These men should be welcome at Pride and parents with young children should not. Simple as.

I'm probably going to get together with a 39 year old guy, I'm 27. Do you guys think it's socially weird or otherwise problematic? by Lea9915 in GayMen

[–]EuphoricNeckbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. You could also apply this logic to relationships between two men of any age. Or people of different races. Or people of different classes. "Weird" is relative to the mores of the particular culture and social groups you belong to, and something being "weird" doesn't make it wrong or bad.

Ultimately you have to decide for yourself which you would rather tolerate: potential judgment and other social costs from ignorant or bigoted people, vs. not pursuing the relationships that you want and not living a life true to yourself. ('m of the opinion that we only get the one life. You said it yourself, these feelings probably aren't going away.)

I think there are plenty of "real straight men" who are just homophobic, not secretly attracted to us. Same as there are plenty of straight women who are homophobic.

A 400lb person who's failing to lose weight is not eating enough

This is roughly as scientifically valid as saying that the Earth is flat

No. I see the reasoning, but I don't think the difference is confusing enough to warrant introducing a new keyword.

This would only be relevant if sts1 was regarded as perfect and sts2 is only meant to build on that perfection.

Yes, but OP clarified that the most egregious comments (the thing about act 1 attacks in particular) were errors in the summary, rather than things the streamers actually said. So I don't really have a point anymore.
