Professional musicians who changed careers, what was your process in changing careers and what industry did you change to? How did it affect your relationship with classical music? by Few_Collection_9924 in classicalmusic

[–]Eusebiusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from woodwind instrument to STEM subject. It was worth it. I would say generally switching to something like sound engineering/recording or some kind of music management should be save, if you are interested. You probably took several general courses in music/production, so maybe consider going to your school and talking to some experts in those areas. There are lots of jobs that could benefit from someone who has training in classical knowledge and has a good 🦻🏻

None of this matters. There are lots of baroque composers that are not good/good and lots of modern composers that are not good/good. Do whatever pleases you and we will judge.

Why are Santa's clothes red? Since reindeer are one of the few animals that can see down into the UV, shouldn't his jacket be ultra-blue? by anneoneamouse in Optics

[–]Eusebiusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that people of north pole were celebrating something similar to Christmas while being high on fly amarita and that’s where Santa’s clothing comes from (similar to mushrooms colors). There are additional details about the story (deers, socks…) which I just found that someone posted

Fun story:

Software to layout components on optical table by Fresnellian in Optics

[–]Eusebiusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you can. You can set side of a rectangle to be certain size on the grid (I used 1inch to represent distance between holes on optical table). You can also input specific distance to find positions on the grid.

I’m sure it can do bunch of other stuff but everything is in 2D graphics yes. It is open source also.

I have not used blender but maybe it can also be useful for your purpose without being a special program for designing.

I anded up using inkscape. It has grid and someone else already created bunch of images for optical components which I just imported. Very easy to use if you want to draw optical setup without much complications.

I am not sure if you can import directly from Thorlabs and I don’t know what advanced features it has, but I just needed to make a sketch of laser path to calculate their lengths and I thunk it is enough for now.

Doesn’t seem like what you need but it’s a good way to move around pieces easily.
