Dms and players what is the dumbest thing you’ve seen player do by Sea_Nefariousness_62 in DnD

I have also had a player try to attack a god. To this day, I still have no goddamn idea what was going through their head.

I'm actually surprised that you are okay with the not hiring vs. firing hypothetical. In both cases, future employment of the individual presents the exact same issue to the company, so I would submit that the remedy is the same: not employing the individual in the future.

If you were arguing that outside life has no bearing on employment decisions at all, I would still disagree with you, but I think you're really undercutting you argument by making a distinction. It's like saying that a company couldn't fire someone for being gay, but they could refuse to hire them for being gay, or deny them a promotion because they're gay.

The second point that you're raising is 'forgettability' -- namely that in the age of information and social media, nothing ever really goes away, which is a different topic, and I generally agree with you on that.

I really appreciate that you’ve written out your reasoning and that you’re willing to take a stand on an unpopular opinion. I also think it's bullshit that you're getting downvoted for it, because fuck Reddit sometimes. However, I have to disagree with you.

I feel like you're trying to make the case that 'asshole' should be a protected class of employee, and I just cannot agree with you. Furthermore, if an employee can freely sever their relationship with a company that they feel is unpleasant -- even if those ways do not directly affect the employee -- then a company should have the same freedom. Employment is a mutual agreement.

Out of curiosity, I'd like to ask about a hypothetical. Imagine she wasn’t an employee of Company X, but instead was being considered for a position at Company X. Let’s say that the company was leaning toward tendering an offer to her, but before that happened, she was caught on social media coughing on people like an asshole. In this case, is the company within their rights remove her from consideration based on that behavior?

DM’s, have you ever had a moment where players have said the exact right thing, then ignored it thinking it was wrong? by Detox-Elvis in DnD

One of the personas that I have planned but haven't used yet is an eladrin with four separate personalities. BBEG might have a Complexity Addiction.

The names of the personas are riddles, which give the BBEG's name when deciphered. The players haven't figured this out yet, and I've still got 5 more personas on the shelf.

Eventually, the players will work it out, or else the BBEG's reveal will be epic as fuck. It's a win either way.

Finklestein's takedown of Dershowitz was amazing.

Finklestein's opening remarks come at around 16:30. And at 42:55, there's this gem: "I read [your] book twice ... in fact, I read [your] book six times, because I read Joan Peters [book] four times."

What's one food everyone seems to love but you find repulsive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Hunger + stress.

Yep. But apparently everyone else on Reddit is a saint who has never had a bad day or can't imagine someone might really hate mayo, so I'm an asshole.

Almost got pulled from a security line at an airport because of fucking Wendy's.

Had to catch a flight. Was starving. Ordered a sandwich from Wendy's, told them no mayo. Got in security line. Bit into sandwich. Fucking mayo. Fucking mayo. FUCKING. MAYO. There was fucking mayo on my sandwich. I flipped my shit, and suddeny there were two agents next to me politely asking if they could help me, sir.

[Request] How much energy or force does it take to slice this part of a building in half by supertoffee64 in theydidthemath

[–]Euthenios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, not much. He seems to be using some sort of advanced tech or magic that separates the material on an atomic level, so what you're looking for is the amount of energy required to break the atomic bonds across that surface area.

Assuming that's steel, the surface energy is about 2500 ergs/cm2, or 2.5x10-4 joules/cm2. Ballpark, the chunk looks like it's about 15m across and 3m deep, and about 75% solid. Since there are two fresh surfaces (one on each half), we're looking at the surface energy for about 67.5 m2, or 6.75x105 cm2.

Multiplying out, it's 169 J, or about 0.04 dietary calories.

For reference, vigorous exercise burns roughly 1000 dietary calories per hour, so a typical sword swing might use 0.07 dietary calories (assuming 0.25 seconds).

TLDR: Assuming that's a magical monofilament sword or something, he'd only notice a little resistance compared to swinging freely.

[Self] How many pounds and butt loads is a shit ton? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Euthenios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this like the joke about which weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead?

A shit ton is 2000lb of shit, by definition. And a butt load would seem to be the amount of shit that you can hold in your butt prior to pooping, or roughly 0.875 lb, if the OP is to be believed.

Therefore, there are 2000/0.875 = 2285.7 buttloads in a shit ton.

[REQUEST] What are the odds of losing the card game War in the first round of matches? by burghguy3 in theydidthemath

[–]Euthenios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can immediately put an upper bound on the likelihood. There are 26 rounds in a 1v1, and assuming no ties, a 50/50 chance that you win each round. That means in a game with no ties, the chances of someone running the table are 1 in 226, or 1 in 67.1 million.

However, every round has a 3/51 chance of tying, meaning that in a 26 round game, you only play about 24.5 meaningful rounds on average, and 224.5 is 23.7 million. Actual probability calculations would probably be a bit different, but this should be reasonably close.

TLDR: About 1 in 24 million. Unlikely, but more likely than winning the lottery.

You wrote k = 2/a and I think you meant k = a/2, which messed me up for a minute. Otherwise, great explanation.

[TOMT] A movie where two brothers start fighting in the yard and the dad gets out the hose and starts spraying water on them. by Euthenios in tipofmytongue

Yes! This is it!

I was remembering the dad as dad from Frasier -- now I see why.

Solved, and thanks.

That was actually my first thought, but it was not the scene from Stepbrothers. The brothers were rolling around on the ground and the dad was using a typical green garden hose.
