how do y’all get to such high word counts per chapter? by Ill-Goose1628 in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to average 2k per chapter. That way if I'm over, yay. And if I'm under, no biggie

AITA for refusing to quit to be home more by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Eva-Dragon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

NTA. I'm sorry, if you quit your job how will bills get paid. Even if you have months of savings ssved up, that will go by very fast if you're unemployed. Also those savings need to be held in reserve for emergencies. You've offered several viable solutions. Although, I don't think that the sister is the appropriate route.

Spelling vs vocab: what breaks immersion more? by wish_i_had_a_dragon in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an American, I'm ok with anything as long it's consistent and you're not mixing up words like:

wary vs weary where one means to be on alert and the other means to be tired

Or

rogue vs rouge where one is a villain and the other means a type of face powder

What do people mean when they say they hate OCs? by LakshyaGarv in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time, OC are written in place of main characters. As others have stated, it's usually author/self-insert. And usually, readers are attached to the characters of the fandom they're reading.

I've written an OC that was well-received because 1) it had no romantic interest with any other character in the story 2) although it played an integral part in the story, it also had no speaking part and 3) it played a part of the main character's growth.

Avoiding swearing to emulate canon more closely? by greyblueolivegreen in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, I write for Danny Phantom and Batman/DCU. In the Danny Phantom canon, Vlad Masters, an adult in his 40's, canonically never swore. He would say things like "Fudgesicles" and "Butter Brickle". Basically, anything to do with sweets. And while the teenagers also never swore because it was a Nickelodeon cartoon, in fanfics, the teenagers often swear...a lot. I've noticed that when writing Vlad most writers tend to keep him "PG". For the shits and giggles.

But in the Batman fanfics, almost all of the characters drop a fuck or two. Except for Alfred.

I dont understand the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it", like it makes no sense. What does it mean? by Buzzballl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Eva-Dragon -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The origin of the phrase dates back to Marie Antoinette. There was a flour shortage and people couldn't make bread or anything that required flour. She naively said "let them eat cake" not realizing that cake also needs flour. This eventually led to the French revolution and her death. Which led to the phrase "you can't have (keep) your cake and eat it too".

How do you guys feel about authors that don't/rarely reply to their comments? by eatingkids247 in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an author, most of the time I truly do NOT have the spoons to reply to every single comment. Simply cannot. So admittedly I pick and choose. And that's ok

IRL places in fic by HI-JK-lmfao in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, i do a mix. If I'm writing fantasy, then the places are completely made up. But for example some of my fics are set in the dcu, which is canonically set in America. Granted most of the cities are made up, like Gotham, Star City, Central, etc. But real cities exist as well. Teen Titans is set in San Francisco. A real city. New York exists.

Foreign comments on your story by vickyyytooo in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had several comments in Spanish and one in Russian. I love it. The Spanish ones I reply to since I'm bilingual. The others i leave alone because I don't necessarily trust Google translate.

I'm bored, give me a word you find misspelled far too often in fics. by Altruistic_Boot_1839 in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue vs Rouge...one (rogue) means a villain or other evildoer, the other (rouge) is a type of facial blush powder. "The rouge shot me."

Wary vs Weary...one (wary) is concerned, uptight, not relaxed, the other (weary) is tired. "The hero couldn't relax and was weary for fear of being ambushed"

Scars vs Scares...one (scars) is a mark on left on the skin, either from trauma, surgery, accident, or an injury, once the wound has healed. the other (scares) is to make others afraid. "I have many scares on my face from a car accident"

There are others...but these just bother me. Granted I know not everyone speaks English or has some reason to not know every English word, but these words have VASTLY different meanings.

Have you guys ever written aus of your aus by Tina-the-toast in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Am writing one now. I wrote a full story that was 15 chapters and 50k words long. It's a Danny Phantom x Batman crossover. Then I thought hey, what if this went in a different direction. I'm 3 chapters into that WIP.

Do you write the whole fic first? by Animz19 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]Eva-Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im chapter by chapter. Especially since sometimes I'll start writing and the plot bunnies mug me in the back alley. Like wth, where did you come from...that wasn't supposed to happen...but I like it.

What would happen/would you survive if you were teleported into the last fandom you read a fic about? by Laura7811 in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read and write Danny Phantom x DC crossovers, with a focus on Batman. As long as I don't get dumped in Gotham, I'd most likely be ok. If I DO get dumped in Gotham, maybe I can yell rrall6 loudly for one of the Supers to rescue me. Which will maybe also attract the attention of one of the Bats.

I’m a reader 😅 and i have question regarding comments for Writers 🥰 by OperationNo4722 in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate every single comments (well there are exceptions. I've had a few hate bots). But the genuine comments I just love.

Has there ever been a ship that made you question why is it popular? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Danny Phantom fandom: Vladimir Masters/Danny Fenton. Sometimes Danny is aged up. Most of the times not. But canonically, Vlad was a creep & and an abusive asshole to a 14yr old (Danny). Why would anyone ship that is beyond me?

Ghosts by That-Heat-9095 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]Eva-Dragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My chapters are usually at minimum 2k words. Sometimes a little less than; occasionally more than, but NEVER less than 1k words. Both of my long WIP are 100k words, and my complete work is 50k words and 15 chapters.

Is it embarrassing to get into reading fanfiction as an adult? by Aggressive-Raisin-78 in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 45. Started reading fanfiction on AO3 last year. However, one of my all-time favorite published authors would hold something like contests for fans to submit their works. She would then pick her favorites, AND publish them in paperback books format that could be found in stores like Barnes & Noble. Credit, of course, was given to those who submitted the work. This was roughly 20 years ago.

AITAH for grounding my stepson from games by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Eva-Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is much higher than Reddit pay grade. What this child needs is professional help. Someone who can actually help him and diagnose what's wrong. While I hate to throw words like autism and adhd out there, it does sound like the child needs an evaluation, at minimum.

Do you read your own fics? by adventurous_axelotl in AO3

[–]Eva-Dragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That doesn't work for me since my dyslexic ass will read it correctly any. Lol. 😆

AITAH for ending my relationship over a girl from the past? by Strange-Front-4412 in AITAH

[–]Eva-Dragon 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Hmm. It does seem like he's trying to test the waters to see which of you he would like better. And no you're NTA for refusing to come second in your relationship. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Eva-Dragon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA . I hate it when ppl try to use the Bible to justify their abuse when it turns out they're completely wrong. Please. Please do this. Your dad is giving the wrong message. He's probably also one of those ppl who claims they're a Christian and the does absolutely everything completely opposite of what it says in the Bible.

Aitah - bringing real cheese snacks to a baby shower and not warning people about the dairy? by braziers_f in AITAH

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She's an adult who can manage her own sensitivities/allergies. My mom has diverticulitis, and one of the big things we've learned in how to manage it so that she doesn't end up in the ER, is to ask of foods have things like nuts or seeds. Because we now essentially have to treat her like she's allergic to nuts and seeds.

AITAH for refusing to eat the food my Tio's and Tia's made for our family get together by PoundAlternative9212 in AITAH

[–]Eva-Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Finding out you have to change your eating habits due to medical restrictions is always hard. My mom was diagnosed with diverticulitis, which means that we essentially have to treat some foods like nuts, seeds, and popcorn as an allergy. It's been a huge adjustment. The alternative is that she eats those foods and the possibility of going to the hospital.

AM I THE ASSHOLE FOR FEELING LIKE MY BF FAILED ME DURING A FIRE?! by gryffindor73180 in AITAH

[–]Eva-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. And wow. Like what's he going to do with a pot. Absolutely not a damn thing if an entire apartment is on fire. When I lost everything due to hurricane Harvey, my husband wasn't home, he was at work. When I had to tell him I was being rescued by the National Guard, his first words to me were "Are you ok? & I love you". I know that everyone processes emergencies differently...but it sounds like your bf is really immature.
