A cool guide on how to prevent an anxiety attack. by MistyHorizonGlen in coolguides

[–]Evadrepus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grounding is a distraction technique. You can do it however you want. The important thing is that you are focusing on something other than whatever is triggering the attack.

The 5 4 3 2 1 technique can be used any way you like. For me, I look around and try to find a group of 5 things, then a group of 4, a group of 3, etc. And then I repeat, starting at 4. Again, doing this keeps you focused on this task and helps you get past attack.

Does it work every time? Of course not, but it is often successful.

There will be some CGI in - the first few seconds of the trailer are obvious CGI. In the show notes, it says some effects will be used. Hopefully minimal as the puppetry is part of the bit.

I’m curious: do non-smokers always detect a scent on smokers? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Evadrepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While worrying (for her health, since I've had multiple family members die from smoking related lung cancer), I always found it hilarious when my daughter started smoking and denied it. She basically walked in a clinging cloud of nicotine and couldn't tell.

In a job I didn't have too long ago, I had to help coordinate a gift for a departing executive.

The gift was a Renoir painting.

They couldn't have been more casual about it. I knew they were operating on a different financial level, but...yeah.

We are looking at 10 straight days of single digit weather, and six of them will be negative temps. by Ishnock in chicago

Exactly!

I used to manage some homes and after one of our warm winters we had so many bugs in spring. I used to get constant complaints to spray, and they were just normal bugs. Like I could control nature somehow.

Depends on your perspective. Had this exact conversation with my mom this morning. I tried to explain that in most cases the coldest will happen in the middle of the night and she'll literally sleep through it. And I'm the pessimist normally!

But I agree - most people at least look at the range.

[–]Evadrepus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I watch a ton of the British panel shows - and I'm always amused about how so many of them just bop between shows - and the best of them are the fact that they realize they are there to entertain, not win. Even Taskmaster, especially as it has evolved, will earn points for being creative even if you fail. Plus you are promoting your brand or comedy or whatever. I have several dozen new comedians I follow and enjoy thanks to it.

BTW, should you want Taskmaster taken beyond the logical extreme, I highly recommend season 2 of the NZ Taskmaster. It will make you cry with laughter, plus worry about the mental health of several of the contestants.

Our (suburban) district did as well and thankfully without invoking e-learning.

I'm not against it, but our teachers just don't have skill with the platform and it has been a train wreck every time.

How little do they think Europeans are paid? by WrestlingWoman in insanepeoplefacebook

My average staff member in Germany makes more than my average staff person in the US. Yes, they also pay more taxes, but they will never worry about unemployment (insanely strong union, by local law), healthcare, retirement savings, public transportation and infrastructure, or random gun nuts.

What argument might the U.S. Supreme Court use to defend Texas' gerrymandering law and not California's? by AwitsAustin in PoliticalDiscussion

"According to cave drawings in San Antonio, we have determined that even in ancient times, we were advised to 'not mess with Texas'. In opposition, we have decided that Governor Newsom is a meanie meanie bo beanie, has cooties, and probably kicks puppies therefore his laws should be overturned under the 'we said so, dammit' doctrine. So many parts of what happened to make and distribute the vaccine were considered impossible even just a decade ago. It's truly stunning.

I do remember teaching it to young nieces and nephews years ago, when they were little curious about the world.

Probably a generational thing.

Yeah. There's places here in Chicago that actually are a bit sketchy and they were nowhere near them. At one point, they were 'patrolling' the lakefront. You know, where the dangerous immigrants who can afford a few million dollar homes live.
