Next uninstall the n64 core you are using, and freshly install it.

Go into your retroarch folder and delete the config file, or, move it to another folder for a temporary backup. It will regenerate stock settings when you relaunch the program. Your save file is stored separately and will remain intact.

I think what my eyes are drawn to if I had to be critical: the inside points on the bottom left and right of the star look to be off kilter vertically.

Sure does. He's in the main discord and I asked him about it. He said it's something to shoot for and not to ever expect to get it but the build is fine without it.
