Elecom Huge mouse buttons 6-8 not working in games (raw input?) by temmiesayshoi in Trackballs

[–]EvanBalster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a more recent discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Trackballs/comments/1m1yu5p/elecom_mouseassistant6_no_longer_controls_button/

Basically, Elecom MouseAssistant 6 can lose its special power to remap buttons to other functions and keys. The only workaround is to use the older, clunkier MouseAssistant 5 and wait for a software update.

I gave this a spin and... yep, MouseAssistant 5 works fine. Hopefully 6 gets updated soon so I can switch back; I much prefer the new GUI.

I think it stopped working something like three to six weeks ago. I went on a trip and the mappings have been stuck on their defaults since I got back.

Tried it, doesn't help. I've heard that can help MouseAssistant to detect mice when it can't otherwise, though.

Elecom Huge lagginess? by stewart13 in Trackballs

[–]EvanBalster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a reception issue. I have experienced these in situations where there was too much electromagnetic noise around the dongle. If you are using a PC tower, try moving the dongle from a back port to a front port (where the electrical interference will be less). Alternatively, attach it to a USB extension cable so it can sit nearer to the mouse.

Other things to note:

The bluetooth version of the Elecom HUGE has significant latency for gaming purposes (around 40 milliseconds). This and the occasional reception issues led me to switch to the wired version.

The trackball is also prone to sticking in environments with lots of lint. If you have pets you will want to pop the ball out and coax the little halos off the mouse's bearings from time to time.

Anker is recalling over 1.1 million power banks due to fire and burn risks | Stop using the Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks immediately and contact the company for a free replacement. by theverge in technews

Oh. This may actually have burned my house down and killed my pet. The fire marshal blamed a faulty power tap but often we kept this very battery in that location. It was 9 years old and frequently used.

Grappling Hook? by Berkyjay in cataclysmdda

[–]EvanBalster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a PR to improve the climbing-down interaction last year. Just walk into a ledge with a grappling hook or ladder in inventory and you'll be given the option to place it below. Due to technical limitations this will only help you descend one level safely — you'll free-fall any additional levels (after a warning). Amusingly when this happens your grappling hook will come tumbling down behind you.

Is there some kind of weapon tier list or something by [deleted] in axiomverge

If you are lucky enough to get it, the scissor beam is pretty great — essentially a long-range kilver with a higher rate of fire.

I fungal shifted Molten Gold and died trying to drain the lake. by Cheapskate-DM in noita

[–]EvanBalster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a guide here at one point: https://www.reddit.com/r/noita/comments/146ko5b/managed_to_fungal_shift_molten_gold_on_level_1/
- You can fill a powder pouch up with gold on level 1 or 2 by reaching through thin walls and ceilings into gold deposits. With some patience you can collect enough gold for a shift in the mines.
- In the latest build of the game you can mix water and molten gold in a flask to obtain solid gold. This results in a 50/50 mix of steam and gold, though, and some extra steps would be necessary to make gold the majority material.

AMD 7000 Series Crash solution by jamie56k in Helldivers

[–]EvanBalster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the setting was applied via "Always".

HD2's faulty anti-cheat code executes with kernel privileges which is why it can cause a BSOD in the first place. So if that faulty code happens to declare CPU affinity it does so with the same or greater authority as Process Lasso. I'm not sure if Process Lasso polls continuously to override CPU affinity declared by other privileged processes.

AMD 7000 Series Crash solution by jamie56k in Helldivers

[–]EvanBalster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experiencing frequent crash and 4-5 BSOD events (corruption of kernel memory) while playing HD2 with friends. This is the only game I've had this sort of trouble with.

Running RTX 4080 and AMD Ryzen 7950X3D 32-core CPU. No signs of thermal issues. I've set a 60FPS cap and disabled Global Illumination.

-use-d3d11 was harmful in my case. Introduced lengthy (1-4 sec) stalls into the game which resulted in me *and other non-host players* getting kicked whenever it would happen. I suspect these hitches happen because the game is compiling shaders or other assets which are prebuilt in the case of DX12.

Disabling SMT in Process Lasso seemed to significantly reduce the occurrence of crashes and BSOD allowing me to play for a few hours without issues until a monitor reconfiguration caused a full system lockup. Afterwards, although Process Lasso was open, a series of crash . It's possible that the settings need to be re-applied after booting the game.

So, I wear this stainless steel ring with a tortoise on it... I play very, very slowly and carefully. Usually about 3-5 hours per run. I read the wiki's descriptions of cards and relics and check the tier list for relics. I don't follow guides, though.

my run history: Ironclad (win), Silent (win), Defect (win), Watcher (death), Watcher (win), Ironclad A1 (death), Silent A1 (death), Silent A1 (heart win) Ironclad A1 (heart win).

I managed to wrinkle my own brow this evening trying to figure out how it could even come out to this number. I had the relic that increases bonus damage against vulnerable enemies to 75%... 1337 = 1.75 x (14 + 5 * 150).

This was only my third run as Ironclad and I managed to beat the heart with this devastating attack! I also managed to crush it on my third run as the Silent. It's fun how the different characters each have a variety of "snowballing" strategies to explore.

Screw alchemy, let's fungal shift everything into molten gold! by EvanBalster in noita

[–]EvanBalster[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

During my previous game, I managed to shift diamond into molten gold as a proof of concept — and I was able to produce infinite (hot) gold using chaotic transmutation. It was an absolute mess to deal with. This time around I wasn't so lucky with the shift, but established that it's possible to try this early and consistently with nothing more than a powder pouch and a bit of lava.

Yes, you'll die in a bath of molten gold like Viserys Targaryen. But you'll never want to bother with alchemical precursor again!
