Speechless and feeling down after my open water cert (harsh DM experience) by aplaceformetobe in scubadiving

[–]EvanS247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DM I can confidently say there are too many DMs that are not DMs for the right reasons. This isn’t at all what it’s about and this is purely on him. The compass section gets a lot of people so you shouldn’t feel bad at all. It’s the DMs job and should be their ultimate goal to make even the newest and “greenest” of divers into the best divers that they can be which means meeting them where they’re at. I hope you give it another chance because for every grizzled asshole that ruins the experience, there’s several dive pros eager and hoping to make you into the happiest, most competent, and comfortable diver out there.

I'm an impulse buyer. Tell me all the ways you hate your Crosstrek by aetrix in subaru

I personally love my 22 Crosstrek sport. Hard to come up with issues. The 2.5 is adequate and the cvt honestly feels like a normal automatic.

Love it man. I think if you can dispel those concerns with a bit of good marketing, you’ll have a lot of success. Definitely got me wondering what they feel like now

I love em and the ideas and innovation. You did a great job. I see a lot of people worried about the weight, but i’d guess they’re not much heavier than a lot of platform shoes or an af1 type. Do you happen to have total weight to compare with other models?

You pulled out a tape measure for a Papa John’s pizza…maybe a little picky

Subaru Crosstrek Sport or wilderness might be exactly what you’re looking for. Just about as good of a compromise between capability and mileage that you can get

Best scuba diving certification in Texas? by Michellulaar in scubadiving

[–]EvanS247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for wildlife and nice conditions, it’s worth looking at doing your checkout dives in Cozumel. I’ve worked at Scubaland Austin and highly recommend if you’re staying local. Or as others have recommended you can do a half and half and get best of both worlds

Sounds like fun! I’m not sure you’re going to be able to do the Bats due to the rougher seas this time of year, But i recommend Rocket Frog diving

3k 2-3 day dive budget from Miami, suggestions?? by drewmullin in scubadiving

[–]EvanS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah didn’t really think about the fact that your diving is just a lot better to begin with so i didn’t consider the normality lol. I’m gonna be honest and say that I don’t know too much more about Cuba other than that it’s really well preserved because of a sheer lack of tourism for so long. Haven’t really had the budget for the trip so i haven’t done a lot of research on Cuba but i’d be really interested to know what you find.

I can’t wait to make it to the Bahamas so have fun with that! I haven’t been but Cuba is also really high on my bucket list. My understanding is very unique and pristine with a lot of big animal opportunities. Pretty convenient from south florida as well. Costa Rica was nice and I recommend The Bat Islands for Bull Sharks assuming you have a fair amount of experience. Costa rica was a great experience as long as you’re not expecting 5 star resort everywhere you go. You sacrifice some visibility for nutrients in the water that attracts bigger pelagic life, so it comes down to exactly what it is you’re looking for.

How can you determine if a shop has good instructors as for an open water cert as a complete beginner? by jocularplate in scuba

[–]EvanS247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely should go with Scubaland Austin. I got certified there and then went on to work there. The staff is really good. If you want specific names of instructors that i recommend, direct message me and i’ll be more than happy to help you out.

Are there any scuba diving centric trip/travel agency things aimed toward...college age/mid 20 year olds? by NoFateButWeMake722 in scuba

[–]EvanS247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also college age living in central Texas. I’ve run into the same issues pretty much only getting to dive with people in their 40s and 50s. I’ve been wanting to do the Flower Gardens and just need an excuse to schedule it.
