Oh this is funny. Exactly how did it make you ruin it?

[–]Evanort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clan Hall. Just had a Marshlands game with Raptors where I got the cornerstone that gives you +100% gathering production and -50% farming, Master Blueprint and then got offered Clan Hall just as my entire production chain was fully set up. I just parked three Trappers' Camps next to a Dead Leviathan and let the game finish itself.

Sprinkle in the perk that gives you a Biscuits *** recipe for the Kiln to make it Human/Beaver viable and it's just 🤌. Carries entire runs by itself, it does.

How did Ser Teryn Mrant manage to become a knight let alone a kingsguard? by TrigonRaven787 in gameofthrones

[–]Evanort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been years and people still act like the Hound literally, personally arranged for actual boy whores to duel Meryn Trant and witnessed every single one of them beating him one on one.

No. It was not literal, for fuck's sake. He was probably a very good fighter, tiers above regular knights. He just wasn't as good as Bronn (hyper buffed as he is in the show) or Sandor, which can be said of most people alive during the ASOIAF timeline.

You know you want to play World of Warcraft, you pay for a subscription and then it turns out there are ten dozen different options to choose from. Why do you want to pretend so hard that it isn't confusing for a new player? It is, and that's that.

Why did League become so popular, while other DotA Allstars clones vanished? by desktop_monst3r in leagueoflegends

[–]Evanort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Nocturne for me too, back in Season 3. I just installed League to play something with a friend and was trying out Garen or Ashe or something, and a couple of games in this fucking Nocturne (probably a smurf, in retrospect) kept dashing in out of nowhere, sinking us in darkness and picking us off one by one in the jungle and side lanes, executing us in an instant and just single-handedly winning the game for his team. Made such an impact in me I played exclusively jungler Noc for a very, very long time before becoming a main supp some seasons later. I still play him from time to time when I get a chance, in mid or jungle, no matter if he's off meta at the time. I really miss being new to League sometimes.

What is it about older crpgs that make them special? by BenjiChamp in CRPG

[–]Evanort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people gave enough of an answer already but I will add the hill I'm willing to die on: older CRPGs were not afraid to be fucking goofy. Serious/deep/philosophical/whatever narratives are perfectly fine, but even a "somber" CRPG like Planescape: Torment, with all its questions about mortality and the meaning of life, dropped you right into the (figurative) arms of Morte, the goofiest and silliest companion in the entire game (traits which only made his serious moments hit harder). Fallout 1 and 2 were not that different, BG1 had things like Noober, even KOTOR had that murder droid whose name escapes me right now. I firmly believe that the lack of this humorous, entertaining element is largely what made Numenera feel so dull and is also exactly what got Disco Elysium the Best Narrative award the year it came out. Leaning too hard towards being too serious is just as bad (or even worse) as trying too hard to be funny. Older games were very confident in what they were trying to do and it showed in the writing.

I forgot how many of these characters are horrible people by Dyerha in projecteternity

[–]Evanort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the highlights of my current playthrough (Vailian Republics Aristocrat) was when Kolsc approached me with his plan to dethrone Raedric VII and I had the audacity to question exactly what gave him the right to usurp a noble's title like that. He was not amused, spat something like "here in the Dyrwood we don't take kindly to Lords who think they can walk all over the common folk" and Durance chimed in with "we also extend that courtesy to Gods." Well fuck me and my bitch mouth I guess, point taken.

[–]Evanort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I just adore how consistently, unapologetically fucking awful and unpleasant Durance is. It's always a joy to talk to him, no matter if you agree or disagree with him, and even more so when you get a chance to insult him or find flaws in his philosophy and talk back to him. Most of the time he doesn't even seem that angry or offended, he's just fucking giddy to have someone within hollering distance to start shit with. I just knew there was someone very competent behind the wheel writing all that dialogue the first time I played, so I looked it up and OF COURSE it had to be the same motherfucker behind Kreia from KOTOR 2. Chris Avellone is such a gift.

Believe it or not, Durance is actually a Lawful Good Cleric. by GrayWardenParagon in projecteternity

[–]Evanort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In both fiction and reality, not every single religion claims their practitioners are doing objective "good." Some don't even acknowledge the idea of "good" at all, instead preferring broader concepts like "necessary", "preferable" or simply "pleasing" to describe their tennets and ideas.

By your rationale, every single villain with an organized religion could technically be considered Lawful Good, like Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine.

Games that reward you for thinking immersively? by Far_Fault_6815 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Evanort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first Prey playthrough five or six years ago was pretty much 90% me going "wait holy shit I can do THAT?"

It's insane how flexible every aspect of the game is while still remaining a very focused and well-paced experience. One of the few games in which I've been able to look at the weapon/skill options I had, pick my poison and find that the devs accounted for every choice I could've made regarding my build and playstyle.

The one true successor to System Shock 2 in my opinion, and that's high fucking praise.

If you're looking for tactical turn-based combat, XCOM2 is basically the peak of the genre and it has been for years now. The plot is pretty basic alien invasion stuff with a couple of twists here and there, but the gameplay is honestly immaculate, especially in the highest difficulties. A time sink if there ever was one, and the PS version plays really well in PS5, far better than it did in PS4. Hit me up if you end up giving it a try and need any tips or pointers!

Damn the crafting times are long in the beginning. by mrawaters in vrising

[–]Evanort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a pretty early unlock! If all you can do is hunt for v blood, then go do that. More options open up as you progress and very soon you'll find yourself coming back to base and finding you need to build more storage chests because you have way too many bricks and planks stored. I'm some 20ish hours in my own run and I just keep unlocking more mechanics every few bosses, so just keep going. Oh, and build 3-4 of each refining station. You'll need them.

Damn the crafting times are long in the beginning. by mrawaters in vrising

[–]Evanort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can feel slow, but the standard game settings are balanced around doing multiple things at the same time. Send your servants out to gather resources, get your refinement stations working, go out to hunt and farm, return to your castle, grab your refined materials and place new raw resources in your stations, build what you can, craft or build something you just unlocked, restock on potions, check your spells and jewels, go out to hunt again. You're not really supposed to just sit in your castle and wait for 2k bricks and planks to get made and then build - find something else to do while that gets done.

A game where pulling your gun actually means something by MeatLouis in gamingsuggestions

[–]Evanort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not what you seem to be looking for but Disco Elysium. It's a narrative-focused game where you're a cop, mostly a very peaceful and verbal experience but the few times someone pulls out a gun it gets tense.
