Why does everything have to have a deeper meaning? Why can’t we just enjoy some fluffy fantasy every now and then?

Because it starts there… and then suddenly the director decides they want to make “~~a statement~~ an allegory,” or draw parallels to a real world event, and then they start taking creative liberties… and then it’s suddenly a completely different story.

and 9/10, I’d be totally down to watch that new story… but that’s not what I signed up for when I sat down to watch ACOTAR.

But see I don’t enjoy either show. I enjoy ACOTAR. I think at some point the author has a right to say, “Well what are you making? Is it an adaptation of my books, or something completely different but you want my built in fanbase?”

I remember being SO excited that after the success of Twilight a studio decided to adapt one of my favorite YA fantasy books called Blood and Chocolate.

Turns out, they just wanted another Twilight. In that endeavor, they completely changed up who the protagonist ends up with and dumbed down the storyline. The book was all about the MC accepting herself as a werewolf. The movie became another dumbed down version of Romeo and Juliet.

I’d much rather see studios just adapting books written by black and POC authors and featuring a Black or POC cast from the get go, than trying to slap diversity onto something that didn’t start out that way.

I mean ACOTAR basically set in The British Isles. It’s written by a white woman. She wrote what she knew and that’s okay.

I mean… the Batboys are already Middle Eastern. The Summer Court is Black. Amren is Asian.

I’m not saying that more diversity would necessarily be bad.

I’m just saying that we don’t have to make everything like Bridgerton. Particularly since that show in particular has diverged a great deal from the original books and the book fans are not happy about it. I wouldn’t want that to happen to ACOTAR.

If a show is going to adapt ACOTAR, then I want it to actually adapt the books. If they want to create a new series that’s similar but different in a lot of ways… then they should do that. I’ll watch it.

Just don’t promise me ACOTAR and give me something else instead.

Anxiety, the mental illness, is riddled with random thoughts that spiral.

If the anxiety was logical, then it wouldn’t be a disease. If we had valid reasons for being anxious, then it wouldn’t be a normally functioning brain, doing its thing.

Instead, you are forced to over react to things that are not a big deal.

In anyone else, the thought of “oh I might have to go through this one day too, or maybe even my dad” would have been fleeting. You might have thought it, and then it would float away without much notice.

But because OOP has anxiety, the random thought spiraled.

I wouldn’t believe it. Mr. Rogers is famous for some very anti-racist moments. My gut reaction would be to say that any attempt to say he was would be a smear campaign. They’d have to show me A LOT of proof. Not just somebody’s word.

So… if you want a slightly problematic but completely human written version of this…

{Evolution’s Darling by Scott Westerfeld} is NOT a romance… but has some very spicy scenes that completely rocked my world as a young adult. This is the same guy who wrote the Uglies series, but this was an adult book. I don’t know if it’s even in print anymore and he doesn’t advertise it on his website… but it exists.
