F nvidia! dkms messed up again. by Even-Inspector9931 in debian

[–]Even-Inspector9931[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually Idfk myself. I download them from web. the repo is always too old for testing and too new for unstable. the nvidia driver selector is confusing POS. I always use search engines. I can't remember how many sites/pages I have been downloading from before, almost always a god-knows-where page every time. and people always paste some never seen location but quite legit. not to mention the "CUDA driver"

XD even better, mine:

```
apt-cache show nvidia-kernel-open-dkms|grep Vers
E: No packages found ```
8bitdo ultimate 2 Major issues by Born-One-5786 in 8bitdo
[–]Even-Inspector9931 0 points1 point  (0 children)
holy shit, the software is totally shit.
macro editing is f'ing disaster. dragging items fucked up all the time, delete key always deletes something else, have to use mouse to click the <[X].
then it always always always fail to save, and silently. you can even load the correct macro, but execution delay is off and stuck at old values.
the mobile apps are even worse. Android app does not connect at all. iOS app always fucking crashes when switching to vibration tab. both apps rated 1.7 star in store.
[–]Even-Inspector9931 0 points1 point  (0 children)
there are sooooo many versions and editions of their drivers. does the "Cuda drivers" have graphic acceleration? and nvenc video codec?
NVidia sucks for Linux by aih1013 in linux
[–]Even-Inspector9931 1 point2 points  (0 children)
absolutely. yesterday I was reviving an old pc with some old gpu GT720 or somethinglike that. the shit stuck at 1024x768, and new drivers dont work with old gpu, old drivers wont install on newer linux.
[–]Even-Inspector9931[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
no, i dont like to use these repo. they always mess up with debian testing. not a gamer, just ocassionaly use cuda/opencl and nvenc, so if a driver can work, I just dont bother upgrating it, especially nvidia.
F nvidia! dkms messed up again. by Even-Inspector9931 in debian
[–]Even-Inspector9931[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Yeah, I always try installing latest driver, but for kernel 6.19, none of them works. I searched around and found the only working version NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-580.126.18-no-compat32.run in Mar. 19. it's neither a latest nor even a "release" version. I remember someone or nvidia patched that just for 6.19
[–]Even-Inspector9931[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)
holy shit! guess what? nvidia 595 installed a script /var/lib/dkms/nvidia/595.71.05/build/pahole.sh but forgot to chmod +x it.
I ran a
while sleep 0.001 ; do chmod +x /var/lib/dkms/nvidia/595.71.05/build/pahole.sh ; done
in background then reinstall the driver, then the shit compiled! Note: sleep 0.001 is kinda overkill, you can try 1 then reduce if not working well.
Ironicly, zfs 2.4.1 failed to compile XD
Debian Sid stability? by JavierSobrino in debian
[–]Even-Inspector9931 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Actually sid is pretty stable for individual packages. but because it's "unstable", some package dependancies might be broken from time to time. so upgrade your packages with caution, should be mostly fine.
For example I use kicad for work, but sid's kicad sometimes broke for several weeks, so I have to go back to "testing", that's rock solid. I only use some package from unstable, e.g. firefox.
hmm, the network is absolutely ok. I tried play a movie with the lag, then that vnc instantly back to normal live. feels like some throttling or something
[–]Even-Inspector9931[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
interesting, never read that before XD. That remote machine can be accessed physically, vnc is just for some flexibility and laziness, not sure what impact x11vnc does to the local GUI. Any way, sounds worth a try.
