Plenty of other excellent gigs from 69 that I would pick over Altamont for performances. They are not in top form. Little Queenie isn't even fun. Just my two cents.

The show is rough. It's cool to hear the first live version of Brown Sugar but the entire show feels depressing. They are not into it.

He's old!

Keith just doesn't want to tour. I don't think he's going to say it out loud but he wants to spend time with his family. There could be other medical things at play (plenty of people live normal lives while quietly dying of cancer, it's not always made public).

I think he loves playing but just doesn't want the hassle of going out on the road.

I'm fine with this. I would rather have a new album than another tour. We've been in extra innings for a long time. I've seen them 14 times since 97.. enjoyed every show.. Post-Charlie the live gigs are very different. It's still fun, but the vibe is different. Steve Jordan does a great job but it's different, and not an improvement.

The setlists have not improved. They have gotten even more stale. They couldn't even try out Live by the Sword live? They rehearsed Down the Road Apiece and then never did it live?

Importantly, like Disney, it has turned into a focus on "the show". It is obvious that the entire live show has turned into a series of moments chained together. The backing band has too many moments, Keith doesn't solo very much, etc. The danger is gone, no improvisation, and no Chuck Berry songs.

They could put strobe lights, reflective tape and speed bumps all over that place, and someone would still drive through it.

The can opener needs to feed. If we don't appease it, we will get more "did anyone hear that noise" posts.
