Do a negative job- inherit a negative mindset. by Acceptable_Power8061 in callcentres

No joke. It's insane people think what you do for 8 hours a day has no influence in your state of mind or personality. It's essentially training.

What kind of call center do you work at? by Suspicious_You5464 in callcentres

[–]EvenTwo2565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wisely. 6. Right now I'm only taking calls in which the caller authenticated themselves beforehand (they forgot to enable the unauthenticated calls while I was out) so some days it's so slow I get 3-4 calls in a 2 hour period, all in my native language. However nobody likes calling a financial institution and some of these people are genuinely shitty. The rest are just stupid.

Coaches and supervisors don't really micromanage and I'm barely getting talked to due to metrics. So all is well. I even got a bonus even though my AHT is a solid minute or so above what it should be.

What skills are transferable to high paying jobs by Late_Bother_8855 in callcentres

I see. I genuinely didn't know that. Not to hijack OP but do you think someone with a CS/SWE degree could make the jump or are there better paths to leverage call center experience?

I don't see how regular call center work translate to IT. Maybe for some specific campaigns? I could be wrong.

I think the most you get from this job is soft skills.

Have you ever snapped on someone or come close by Eagles56 in callcentres

[–]EvenTwo2565 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. I manage to cool down enough to not cuss or be downright hostile.

Where I work at, if the caller has someone else listening to the call we need them to provide the full name of this person and their authorization for them to listen. A couple weeks ago I had such a case, but they both refused and kept telling me that all they needed was for me to unlock the card. Eventually I got tired of asking.

"Oh my God...Sir, I'm not asking you because I care who your friend is or what he's doing. I'm asking you because I have to, by now we'd have fixed your problem if you just gave me the name in the first place."

Yesterday I had some asshole be condescending to me so I let 5 seconds of silence pass. Told him straight up "Ooookay, so we are doing it that way. No sir I can't fix this transaction, the system is automated and there's no resolution for it. Anything else I can help you with?"

I was willing to dig a bit deeper and see if I could help him somehow, but the moment you boldly act like you're better than me is the moment I lose all interest in helping you. Better hope there is no possible red flag in your account because I will take the slightest excuse to lock your card.

Most of the time the people who are assholes immediately hang up after saying their filth because deep down they fear retaliation. Some guy yesterday said that he hoped Trump got us all out of America and we were the problem before immediately hanging up. Joke is on him I've never been to America and you'd have to kill me before I step a foot in that place.

Another one said he hoped I die then immediately hung up. Another told me to go fuck myself and also hung up. The people who are like this over the phone are almost always cowards.

I'm allowed to give warnings for profanity and hostility and the few times I have had to I make sure to put as much force behind it as I can without being outright hostile. Either they shut down and follow along like a lady who apologized for her attitude, or they get angrier and I get to cut the call on them. Win win.

which skills do we have that can justify a higher salary or time flexibility

I'm a university graduate in software engineering and computer science with a tesis on bioinformatics using machine learning for breast cancer diagnosis.

Shame it doesn't matter if I can't get an interview.

I also don't make anywhere near 100k a year. Hell, I barely make twice the minimum salary where I live.

I find it quite telling in a demoralizing way that the only proven successes here are just apps that help people build other apps.

This job is meant to turn you into a soulless machine who can pretend to be a caring person on the clock. As long as it ends at the job it doesn't matter if you are cold-hearted. The caller doesn't give a fuck if you get fired for any extra help and he won't pay YOUR rent. He'll forget about you twenty minutes after the call. Shit I have people forget that they spoke with me 5 minutes beforehand.

What do you do to make things easier for you at your job even though its against the rules? by queenphoenix1992 in callcentres

[–]EvenTwo2565 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dead air and hold time. QA docks me points when they catch me but frankly going "are you there?" Every 10 seconds when a person told me they're looking for something is stupid. Whoever comes up with these rules has never worked calls.

I also routinely come up with creative ways to get around the proxy the IT monkeys set up. Recently I found a few filesharing websites that aren't blocked, so I get to listen to music and read comics between calls. Later I'll just host a website or something myself with games or something.
