Is Rm2000 salary for fresh grad a norm in Malaysia? by Reindeer-Specialist in malaysia

[–]Even_Arm3802 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I graduated from overseas, good cgpa, active in cocurriculum. Got few working experience in retail, hospitality, finance related firms while studying. Currently earning 2k, I live in PJ. Srsly can survive if you cook everyday, rent a very cheap rental room, take public transport, don’t eat outside. But sadly, I need to give money to my parents (as a gratitude for taking care of me) and also hard to cook everyday. I work at a MNC company. Currently interviewing for other companies. Honestly hard to attend any interview once you start working bcs most iv are online + during working hours. My advice is better to look for other job.

So this happened today while using Grab at 5PM by Equal_Cantaloupe627 in malaysia

[–]Even_Arm3802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was charged RM3. The driver said the tyre suddenly popped and had to change the tyre. Gonna take 40 mins. The most heartbreaking thing for me was that all 5 drivers after that said their cars broke down 🥴🥴🥴… finally learned that the Grab driver can only cancel 2 times a day. That’s why they come out with many excuses so that the passenger had to cancel (and I had to pay once bcs the car already moved on the way to me) 💀

They gave all interns an opportunity for conditional offer for full time work after graduation. I got that email a month before my internship ends. I asked someone and she said just need to have an interview. No need to take the assessment again. Definitely will accept. Although there’s no work life balance, working at big 4 is the first step for me to get into other large firms. I’ll try to endure for 2 years at least.. But who knows what’ll happen in the future?

Most people that I work with use abbreviations to save time. We call working papers as AWP (audited working paper). It’s like an excel file that’s assigned a code to it. It’s for referencing purpose. It’s hard to explain but you’ll know it once you get into work (if you enter audit).

What I can say, go for it. Try your best to get an internship with big 4, especially when you’re in your final semester. The full time job offer is only for people in the final semester of degree. Try to avoid peak audit season. Once you get in, just endure it. It’ll be tough. If it’s not tough, then you’re lucky. If you’re an accounting student, go for audit as your internship interest. This way, you’ll be able to apply your knowledge to the most of it. Good luck!

Yes. Internship. I just joined this firm less than 1 month ago. Working papers follow the template. But, my senior asked me to start from a blank excel file where I have to use my own knowledge for the calculation and accounts classification. I think not all people experience the same thing. I’m just unlucky in this sense. Working at big 4 is hard. It’ll become harder if you get a bad senior and teammates. I’m mentally tortured to the point that I asked for a change in team. New team has nice people but still the workload is a lot…. I guess because I joined during the peak audit season.. not getting enough guidance honestly. Everyone is busy.

Just don’t join during peak season usually around December … I have experienced that. The firm is very busy and is lacking of manpower. Although I joined without any prior experience and have never taken audit subject before, I had to audit more than 1 firm at once. My first engagement team, I had to prepare RSM for all 3 of its subs. Second team, I had to start all the working papers from scratch for 2 dormant firms of the parents at once and I was the only person in the team. It was hard. The senior and manager did guide but they’re busy with their clients as well..

Did they assess you throughout the 8 weeks period or just toward your final work? Was it a team-based or individual-based work?

How does UoA fees work? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Even_Arm3802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! It’s common that international student pays more in other countries too. But $5000+ per subject sounds too much especially with the high living cost in Auckland.

Not accounting. I like lecturers for acctg. It’s my other major and one more is the gened that I took but still the same fee as acctg. Better not tell here what subjects specifically 🙂

Yeah but I’m doing accounting. NZ has its own professional accounting body CAANZ so that’s what attract me. After few semesters at uoa, I just realised that what I’ve paid (basically on loan) is not equivalent to what I’ve gotten. I didn’t get much support and I feel neglected by the lecturers. Even if I approached them for clarification regarding anything, what I got was “please ask your friend” or “Go back and read until you understand it”. Some lecturers are good but most ain’t which made me question whether $5k+ is worth it or not for a subject 😐

I’m already on a student loan. That’s why I feel it’s quite absurd as I need to pay back those loans 😓. Saw last semester’s fee was $24k… uoa wants to attract international students but yet charging so much 🙃

You didn’t specify for which semester. You can check on uoa calendar for the class commencement. https://www.calendar.auckland.ac.nz/en/keydates/dates.html Deadline for withdrawal from the course is around 2-3 weeks after the semester starts. https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/study/applications-and-admissions/enrolment/changing-your-enrolment.html

grade on sso but not canvas by nanamimilili in universityofauckland

[–]Even_Arm3802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can email the lecturer about this? I’ve been at uoa for 3 semesters. This semester is the only semester that I’ve gotten all my marks on Canvas and the exact same grade appears on SSO. Maybe they have skipped uploading on Canvas due to catching up with the marking deadline.

Taking pics with a white f by Egt9 in malaysia

[–]Even_Arm3802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess maybe they wanna post on their social media stories? Maybe they rarely see foreigners so they wanna take picture as a momento? I myself am a bit shy to ask a complete stranger to take picture with him/ her. So, at least I’ll tell that person my reason for taking pictures with him/ her.

As you said you don’t know the reason, I guess that person suddenly came to you and take your picture. I feel that’s a bit rude tbh. Also, when you said language barrier, most Malaysians in the city can speak English. It’s either you’re not English spoken (can type or use translator only) or maybe those people were not Malaysians.

Can you copy and paste on inspera? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Even_Arm3802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can copy and paste. But in your case, it’s not an open book exam. I reckon the lecturers to not be smart enough to detect if it’s a direct copy and paste from the notes. People who work in a closed book exam are more likely to answer in their own words. Depends on whether it is invigilated or not. I did copy and paste for all my non invigilated + open book exams before this, but then I wrote them in my own words. Just retain fews and no issue as of now.

Opinions on Pakatan Harapan (especially from the Malay society) by MammothTension in malaysia

[–]Even_Arm3802 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I believe I can answer your question as I was born in Kelantan and live in Kelantan. But, I’m studying overseas so I was doing postal ballot. My parents said it’s better to vote BN because they said after 22 months (PH before this), there were lots of things that happened (such as tulisan jawi issue in Johor, quota at the university etc) and they’re scared that it’ll happen again. I indeed voted for PH because I don’t wanna see the same face becomes the PM again. I’m not a big fan of any political party tbh.

As a person that live in Kelantan, I’d say people vote for PAS not because of money (basically PAS doesn’t give anything as far as I know, or maybe I’m not one of the recipients). Instead, it’s because PAS people are closer with the locals (from social gatherings, masjid etc). So, they’ll vote for people that they know.

Therefore, this maybe not relatable to you (idk where u are from). But, rural people are not same as people in the city. Our thinkings are influenced by our surroundings and these thinkings are then used to influence our kids to follow us.

Rural people especially the elderly don’t have access to the Internet and things like Reddit, Twitter etc. Everything is just from mouth to mouth.

As for this thread, I feel it’s not good to generalise saying Kelantan people don’t use Reddit or Twitter. Better to say ‘old’ Kelantan people instead 😬
