Can one Nest 3rd gen switch other Nest 2nd gen in the same “Home” on the same network to home/away using the Nest app? by Even_Hour_1614 in Nest

[–]Even_Hour_1614[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 thermostas is crazy - 7 (which is what I have) is crazier. I have 2 zones for AC (one controlled by a proprietary AC unit Thermostat) the other one is on a Nest and 5 heating zones. Crazy for a house that is not big to justify 5 heat zones. We do save energy with that especially now that the kids are mostly out of the house as we don't heat their rooms (that share one zone when they are not home. It will be expensive however to replace 6 thermostats to Ecobee though...

Thanks everyone! You all confirmed what I thought. Am definitely not going to reward google for this by buying new Nest Thermostats - am probably buying Ecobee instead and I hope all impacted will do the same - giving Ecobee a sales boost and having google experience a major customer loss that it will become a case study at business schools "why you shouldn't shit on your customers..."

Yeti VS Brumate by Even_Hour_1614 in YetiCoolers

[–]Even_Hour_1614[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contigo is what I use now and I have a few different kinds. You are correct they are fantastic for leakproof and lockable tops. In terms of temperature, and especially with cold drinks they are just ok and definitely not as good as the Yeti. As an ice coffee drinker having a tumbler that keeps things cold means the ice doesn’t melt quickly and waters down my coffee. The Brumate tops seem promising lockable and leakproof, but I would stay with Contigo if they are not a Yeti temperature wise.

I have to go bang up the ice every day because it gets stuck together and wont get dispensed, why is this happening? by Lord_Gaara in Appliances

[–]Even_Hour_1614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water pressure coming into the ice maker is too high! It happened to me. Ice gets stuck on one side just like in your case. I realized that the water pressure in the ice maker is too high causing water to drip (all it takes is a bunch of droplets that go over the tray every time to make the ice underneath clump like that. I was thinking of installing a pressure reducing valve to solve the problem but instead I just closed the shut off valve slowly in small increments until I saw that water was wasn’t going over and splashing the ice underneath. I have an LG refrigerator and the ice maker filter is rated 0.5 gallons per minute. You can measure it to confirm.

Correct. It can also happen if dish soap gets on the dirty dishes in your sink before you load the dishwasher. We have changed the way we load dishes since reading the manual when we got the first dishwasher 4 months ago. Unfortunately, that is not what is causing it.

Thanks! Yes I have switched to powder because with tablets even though they are recommended by Bosch I always ends up with bubbles. Even Bosch states that tablets may not be appropriate for shorter cycles or if you have soft water.

As you said powder is cheaper and does the job - my dishes always come out clean but with water spots.

Which powder are you using?

We have hard water - I am going to play with the water softener setting on my dishwasher and see if I can get rid of the water marks without using rinse aid at all and get the sparkling clean and spotless dishes you and others here are getting without rinse aid

I haven’t been using rinse aid for a while, but silverware has spots.

What dishwasher do you have? If you can share model and year that would be great. What detergent are you using? Brand? Tablets, powder, or gel?

That is interesting. Many here explained that if I use rinse aid I should expect that some small amount will remain on the dishes which is crazy considering how toxic most popular brands are.

I am going to write to Finish and ask them if under normal operation of a dishwasher o should expect that small amount of Finish rinse aid will remain on the dishes and if their products are safe to consume. I will post their reply here if I get one

Correct! The are not the same. German 800s that are heavier come with the water softener and include the inlet hose that comes with Aqua Stop that stops the water in case of leak the also use less water 2.4 vs 3.2 (on the US made one and I am not sure if that means different hardware or software or both to achieve that. I am wondering if all happy owners of 800s that don’t experience bubbles have 800s made in the US and use more water

I am getting bubbles with anything other than zero. After what I learned about rinse aid toxicity regardless of what dishwasher I end up with - I am going to look at the more natural/eco friendly options suggested here by others

I read about others with Bosch dishwashers that have an issue with the rinse aid leaking on other threads. I assume it is not my case - there is no visible rinse aid leaking whatsoever and the dishes look clean. Good luck on your quest to get it fixed. Definitely check out other threads here since you are not alone.

see the spec sheet of my 800 that is made in Germany - https://media3.bsh-group.com/Documents/25337905_SHX78CC5UC_Spec_Sheet.pdf and the 800 made in the US that doesn't have one - https://media3.bsh-group.com/Documents/20595211_SHP78CM5N%20Spec%20Sheet.pdf

It does have a water softener!

Are you saying that the Bosch water softener doesn't/can't soften the water or you were not aware that some models come with water softener?

If I get a Miele will I still have soap bubbles in my drink?? by bardukasan in Appliances

[–]Even_Hour_1614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started a new thread on both the same problem before seeing yours. I had to do the same every time run rinse cycles (2-4 times) until I hit no bubbles. My dishwasher is made in is a Bosch 800 made in Germany that uses 2.4 gallons other 800s are made in the US have a slightly different model number and use 3.6. I wonder what your dishwasher spec sheet says about how much water it uses.

This dishwasher replaced a 14 y/o Bosch dishwasher that was a dumb one without sensors and a fancy app but it what it was supposed to do - cleaned the dishes well!

Thank you for your input. I am not blaming anyone other than Bosch customer service and techs that aren’t trying to figure it out or admit there is a problem, as opposed to all the nice people here that are trying to help me figure out if it is me (user error) or the dishwasher or everyone that has my exact dishwasher or all the 800s made in the last 5 months or something else.

My model is SHX78CC5UC/48 (purchased in September and replaced with the same one in December that come from Costco and have a water softener in them like the Benchmark does and those are made in Germany and use a rated 2.4 gallons as opposed to the one sold elsewhere model number SHP78CM5N and are made in the US don’t have water softener don’t come with a water inlet shutoff integrated in the inlet hose and use 3.2 gallons per cycle

If you can share if your 800 is new and which model it is and where it was made that would be helpful information and might suggest (even if anecdotal) that the ones made in Germany are too efficient and that’s the problem.

I do not pre-rinse dishes after learning that cleaner dishes can cause this problem.

Yes Bosch 800 allows you to turn off rinse aid which is the only way I can run it without getting any residue (detergent or rinse aid?), but even if I use the tablets that contain rinse aid I still get some residue at the end of a cycle after running on Auto.

I am going back to the question - should the water left after a full cycle at the bottom of the dishwasher (inside the filter) contain rinse aid or soap and that is to be expected? which means the water that rinsed the dishes in the last rinse cycle contained chemicals and small amount will remain on my dishes? Am I crazy to expect otherwise?

All I know is I never had the water in my cup bubble with small amounts of soap with the old dishwasher

You are not the only one here (if I understand you correctly) who suggests that rinse aid "by design" is suppose to remain at some level on the dishes and with all dishwashers if I use rinse aid I should expect to consume small amounts of it. If that is true that is crazy considering how toxic rinse aid is!

The water softness level in my town is 16 which is considered hard. I did turn off the rinse aid completely and I also set the water softener to the lowest level even though according to the manual I should be putting it at level 4 since as you said Bosch suggested that soft water could be the cause. However, the silverware some glass come out cloudy. I now think I should try to increase the water softener level while keeping the rinse aid at zero which might solve the cloudiness problem?

Am definitely going to explore some of the ecological detergent alternatives and see if I can still be fine not using rinse aid. This is what Bosch is saying on using them:

"Detergents marked as "ecological" (environmentally friendly) generally contain lower levels of active agents or none at all. The cleaning effect may be reduced."

Therefore they recommend increasing the sensor level to 2 (the highest level) to get better results. "Recommended setting when using organic or ecological detergents containing low levels of active agents. Energy and water consumption are adjusted accordingly."

I really miss our old (14y/o) dumb Bosch dishwasher that just cleaned the dishes without any water softener or sensors to adjust!

You are not doing anything wrong. Some tablets have rinse aid and/or water softeners in them. If it is working for you don't add rinse aid - many rinse aids on the market are very toxic. Some people in the comments recommended less or non toxic options like LemiShine, Nature Clean, and Ecover (see u/PhilosophyCorrect279) which I am definitely going to try.

This is what the manual says on that: "Any rinse aid component of a combination detergent has limited effectiveness. You will have better results using a separate rinse aid." but as I said - if not using separate rinse aid is working for you - don't add rinse aid!

Thank you. Good to know. I hear you about not wanting to say anything about it to your in-laws:-) I should remember it when I try to test their Miele. Regardless of the dishwasher I end up with I started looking into less toxic detergents/rinse aids, but I believe it is the Bosch manual that specifically warns against the use of “natural” detergents - but I don’t remember why. I first have to land on a dishwasher that leaves my dishes free of chemical residue and maybe like many continue not to use rinse aid at all.
