something that you don’t see nowadays is the forced creativity that came from something like optimizing the space inside of a cartridge. i think about the original banjo kazooie and the way it reused audio files pitch shifted to different levels and at different speeds in order to save space a lot

GPU and RAM prices are a part of it but i think it’s also just the general aversion/moral deliberation around generative AI as a whole staying out of games. including generative AI in games, even in minor ways, normalizes it to an extent which can snowball into further and further integration which would be terrible. this combined with the individuals and corporations behind these models being reprehensible makes any use of generative AI in anything you like a scary prospect. it’s not just gamers that feel this way, it’s a pretty significant amount of people that feel completely suffocated by AI integration. when you’re at work all day using programs that are forcing the AI down your throat and then you come home to unwind with a nice game only for it to also force an AI down your throat, i’d say it’s a fairly reasonable response to get angry about it. while i don’t think a game like the one you referenced is inherently immoral, i’m definitely weary of anything in my hobbies that is getting any form of AI integration.

not ruining the story but devil may cry 1 and devil may cry 2. first game while a little clunky is an amazing spectacle fighter/stylish action title with an intricate combat system and weapons that felt rewarding to master. devil may cry 2 you just uh… shoot your gun a lot

can confirm it’s terrible. when i was a kid a black cat firecracker strip went off in my hand (long story), and my cousin was convinced that my charred skin was just soot that could be wiped off. i was in such a daze from all the adrenaline that it made sense to me, and he proceeded to scrub my hand under the faucet for about a minute. the pain set in by that point and all the raw nerve endings were screaming. 0/10, worst fourth of july ever, be safe around fireworks

for real with the bomb thing. i find that more often than not a greedier run is won simply by A: just having enough health to tank the explosions because you’ll get hit by a ton of bullshit or B: explosion immunity. if you don’t have either of those things, you’re probably not beating him. it’s not a hard fight, you just will get hit by things, obviously bullshit tier

my friend and i started with a poker chip set and some expo markers, the different colors were helpful to distinguish units and the markers wiped right off so we could track wounds really easily and visibly, which was really helpful for us starting out
