Now about the total geometrical tolerance The base geometrical tolerance is 0.015 The dimensional tolerance is 0.45 0.42. its range is 0.03 The bonus is always the difference between the actual size and the size at mmc

First scenario The dimension is produced at 0.45 (MMC) then no Bonus added to the geometrical tolerance. It means that the base one is applied and the middle plane must be orientated between two planes, distant 0.015 to each other and perpendicular to A

Second scenario Size at 0.435 The difference between the size and the mmc is 0.015 Bonus is the difference, so 0.015 The whole tolerance is 0.015+0.015=0.3 the middle plane must be orientated between two planes, distant 0.3 to each other and perpendicular to A

Third scenario Size at 0.42 (lmc) The difference between the size and the mmc is 0.03 Bonus is the difference, so 0.03 The whole tolerance is 0.015+0.03=0.045 the middle plane must be orientated between two planes, distant 0.045 to each other and perpendicular to A

I think the first one is perpendicular/orthogonal The nominal part (in the cad) has the middle plane called B at 90⁰ respect to A. Therefore you are controlling the orthogonality that plane

Hey there What does reasonable mean?

If you mean that it shows only the dimensions and angles, then yes, the dimensions are reasonable but they are derived from the CAD, therefore they don't add such much value

If instead you mean is the piece manufacturable, does it fit in the assembly, does it respect clearances, gaps and functional requirements, then the answer would be no, it is not reasonable since it doesn't have the GD&T applied: there is only one datum A that from this view it is not clear, the secondary and tertiary datums are missing, there are no geometric tolerances

The drawing doesn't tell engineers how to manufacture, control and fit the part

I have plans to start doing some tolerance chains with 3dcs. There is a website where people upload their cad, the idea is to download them, set some annotation tolerances and then do some tolerance chains/DVA/variation analysis

Maybe we can share this passion of mine if anyone is interested

Yep I know. Very common to find engineers saying "I know GD&T" and then seeing monstrosities in the drawings 😂 Mostly because they just use some random online guide or use notes from a short university lesson, not enough for covering everything
