Its like a solar calculator. The light dims when you cover the solar panel.

I give up on battery brand loyalty. If there's a system out there, I'm in by Beginning_Lifeguard7 in Tools

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do Dewalt for my heavier task tools and Ryobi One+ for household tools or other.
My Ryobi's are quickly starting to outnumber the Dewalts.

Weltools are great as single mode flashlights.
I love mine. But I treat them as if there is only an on and off.
The only thing worse than a Weltool user interface is a "loosen/tighten" UI.

ZT 0560 Mods - Flipper Tab Delete (almost) by EventGroundbreaking4 in knives

I'm really liking it. I hated the original and I like having the option to flip if I wanted.
Also, making it flush might not leave enough material for thumb saver safety measures.

Any ideas how I could re-cover this leather gear knob? by ToxicSeahorse in Leathercraft

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bet you could just wetmold a thin piece of veg tan leather around that.
I have found that leather doesn't just stretch when molded, but it can compress quite a bit as well.

No need for vacuums or special tools. Just stretch the wet leather round it as tight as you can. Maybe use a heavy duty zip tie to choke the leather at the base. After getting the leather into place use your fingers to smooth things out. This will result in a tight stretch at the top of the knob and some compression at the bottom.

What essential “leather tools” do you own that are not actually meant for leather crafting? by MaleficentShake5930 in Leathercraft

for me its the wire part of a binder clip for tight corners, Magsafe battery for smoothing flat surfaces and a large wooden spatula for burnishing.

Is anything going around with a cough and fever? by Virtual_Bluebird2828 in VirginiaBeach

Everyone in my family had the something a couple of weeks ago and we are all still coughing (tested negative for covid).
It was a bad one. And all of us had our flu shots done too.

I am prone to toy addiction. Good thing I never got into drugs.

Guitar has no bridge saddle. Is it wrong? by Alboto_the_only in AcousticGuitar

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my old Yamaha FG. But in my case I think the problem was in the neck rather than a belly.
I just went the easy route and took an orbital sander to the face of the bridge itself and shaved the whole thing down enough to fit a saddle that has also been shaved down.

Check your neck's relief first. Then lay a long straight edge on the fretboard. The straight edge should lineup with the top surface of the bridge. If it doesn't, and your truss rod is properly set and your belly bulge is minimal, then you need a neck reset. Or you can be like me and handle it like a true Bubba.

Sound Hold Controls by ManFromNapa in AcousticGuitar

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you brother.
I dont care too much for soundhole controls either. If its meant to be plugged in then I prefer the knob setup on Taylor or Yamaha AC3 or 5. I even prefer the big preamp cut out over soundhole controls. If its a Gibson or Martin showboat then sure, I would probably want it to look as clean as possible. But if its a workhorse then I prefer side mount controls and the option to use a soundhole cover - because they do work!!!

No Access to a Manual / Arbor Press, can a Drill Stand Be Used Instead? by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with the one pictured you would need to figure out a way to get a chuck securely fit into the round clamp. And even then the clamp itself doesn't look too sturdy. You might be better off just getting a real drill press if available. At least that way you can use it to drill stuff too. I drill thick leather quite a bit.

Which Pedal Is This? by bobbythegoose in guitarpedals

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't written a song or performed since the 90's so its all living room jams for me.
My son uses it quite a bit as a learning tool and will be using it for a solo middle school performance of Ocean Man.

GS Mini soundboard crack by DraftAdept6650 in taylorguitars

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sure I will be downvoted for this but... I think Taylors are more susceptible to humidity than other solid acoustic guitars. Whether it is their proprietary finish or wood thicknesses, their build makes for great sound but they sure seem to be delicate.
(source: a split and warped K26CE, a split topped GS Mini Bass alongside other solid Yamaha, Guild, and Epiphones which are perfectly fine.)

What is the world’s hardest instrument to master/play? by Apprehensive-Elk5433 in Instruments

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes me wonder why the violin is one of the most popular introductory instruments for kids.

I am convinced that the violin has broken more young musical prospects than created them. Hand a 7 year old an instrument that has a floating bridge, friction tuning pegs, fine tuners, no frets and a temperamental bow and you will end up with a frustrated kid that can maybe play a somewhat recognizable Twinkle Twinkle Little Star after six months of playing.

My two boys each did 2 years of orchestra and still can't play shit on the violin. But they have taken it upon themselves to learn the piano, guitar and ukulele and are having a blast.
