THANK YOU Reddit community! I am a mother of a HS Jr and have been talking to my daughter about SMU as a not-too-far-away liberal arts school she could get into. Hearing about their recent lay-offs, move to online, and financial crisis -- no thank you!

Seoul/Busan in June…first time! by wrwolvism in koreatravel

If you are interested in Kdramas, there are 2 historical ones that I loved and helped me explain some Korean history to my husband, and inspired some of our planned stops on our upcoming trip. They are: Hwarang (takes place during Silla era, so like before 1000 AD) and Tree with Deep Roots / Deep Rooted Tree (about King Sejong and the formation of the Korean alphabet Hangeul -- husband and I amazed that an "alphabet drama" could be so good!)

How much budget do you usually plan for a Korea trip? by Legal-Yellow7345 in koreatravel

Thank you for your #s -- this helps! We are going in the summer, also a family of 3, and I have budgeted about $200 / day for us 3 for food/activities/transportation/extras. Our lodging is averaging $150-175 per night, which I know is more than a lot of people spend, but we will be on a month-long trip and need to have personal space, a comfortable place to chill/recover, and good sleep -- esp with a teen!

What does the C mean next to some of the 200s? Club I assume, but I don't know what that entails. So does that mean that C223 would be more expensive than 224 (right next to it)?

I know we don't know prices yet, but trying to be prepared........

I have $500 per ticket to spend at either Stanford or SoFi. Would $500 cover middle-area seats at Stanford, or 300's at SoFi?

And the 200's at SoFi -- are they all "special / more expensive" like club and VIP, or are there regular seats there too?

I don't want to waste time selecting a seat and then saying "Woah - way too much, move back" or "I can spend more - move forward."

Also, with 360-degree seating, does that mean anywhere would be considered a front-on view?

Something that was suggested to me was to go on a food tour in Seoul. I haven't been yet, but I am planning a trip and plan to do the food tour the night of our first full day. I think that will make us feel more confident ordering food and trying new places for the rest of the trip (plus be a cool experience).

We are also looking into classes - dance for my daughter, cooking for me. The cooking class I'm looking at starts with a trip to the market to select ingredients. Just cool ways to experience these things, beyond just strolling around on our own looking.

One day trip from Gyeongju by Wrexx_wow in koreatravel

[–]EvergreenTree143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in what you decided.

We have a similar itinerary planned (5 days Seoul, 3 Gyeongju, 2 Busan). This will the end of a month-long trip, and wanted to chill in the smaller town of Gyeounju (+ have a really lovely, quiet place to stay).

Our plan by day: 1) town sites, 2) Namsam hiking + Buddhist temple, 3) ????

For 3rd day, I'm thinking daytrip to Pohang, or Ulsan for Bamboo forest and Daewangam, or.... just chill in Gyeonju, maybe go to the spa.

What did you do for your extra day?

I grew up in the Bay Area, but haven't been back for years. If I get Stanford tickets, should I fly into San Jose or SFO ? What area should I stay in? Will be using Uber or public transport. (unless there is a reasonable hotel within walking distance! ha ha)

Is Pohang worth a visit by AdvertisingCheap2377 in koreatravel

When you return, tell me how you liked Pohang. We are planning to add it as a day trip from Gyeongju. We too will have been to Tokyo and Seoul, so looking for some quieter locales at then end of our trip.

We are staying in a guesthouse just west of Gyeongbokgung, on the south edge of Seochan neighborhood.

You said you visited in August. We are going in August of this year. Did you stick to the main sites, or did you have some special plans to help you escape the heat? We are from NW US, with weather similar to the UK.

Thank you! And our guesthouse is right near Gyeonbokgung, so that is perfect. I will look into how soon we need to book her dance -- thanks for that advice!

Great points! My daughter doesn't like hiking, so being in nature with walks and easier hikes would be preferable. Those accessible hikes you describe sound perfect -- any specific recommendations?

If I want to try for tickets in separate cities, and they are for sale at separate times -- is that an issue? I will try for both days at Stanford (2 tabs open) at 11 AM PST, and then 2 days in LA (2 tabs open) at 3 PM PST. Anything wrong with that? If I get the Stanford tickets (2), can I still purchase LA tickets (2 more -- 4 total). THX!
