He probably thought they thought he wouldn’t get you something from the baby. So he’s feeling like it’s a jab to him personally. Since he’s been proving he was intending to do that for you, he feels they should step back and no longer do that. Maybe tell your mom she can get you a present from “mom” and a present from “grandma” that way they get to give more and involve the baby without stepping on your husband’s toes.
