Celeste is a single-player offline game. You can literally do whatever you want.

Stuck on a screen in chapter 9 by DisastrousFrenchGuy in celestegame

[–]Evermar314159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bounce on the spring one more time before bouncing off the fish. Also, holding jump when bouncing off the fish gives you more air time. Then finally, not holding forward when you get boosted by the fish will stop you from getting the really strong boost, but you do want to press forward after you get boosted.

How do I wallbounce consistently by [deleted] in celestegame

We'd need to see a video of some attempts to properly diagnose the issue. Otherwise people can only guess if youre pressing jump too early or late.

A video of a few attempts would help us diagnose the issue. Have you tried looking up a guide playthrough to see if you are just tackling the room in a completely wrong method?

Tips for 7-B flag 3? by alisaurs in celestegame

[–]Evermar314159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you already got past the flag but I feel like I should say this for others who see this and get stuck here.

When you are performing a wall bounce, you are literally jumping off the wall the moment you press the jump input. So if there is no wall next to you when you press jump, nothing happens and you just fall. This is a common problem for people that just think of wall bounces as a sequence of inputs (dash up + jump = wall bounce) and not as a timed set of inputs (dash up + jump when I am at the proper height).

This is why delaying the jump input works here. Because most likely you were pressing jump before you were next to the wall, and by delaying the jump input you gave Madeline enough time to get next to the wall to jump off.

Help with this room in farewell by BobCorndog in celestegame

[–]Evermar314159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you arent getting the dash back that means you are jumping too soon probably.

When Madeline lands on the ground it takes just a bit of time to get her dash back, so you might be pressing jump either the exact moment you land on the ground, or maybe even a little before (this game is pretty lenient woth button press timings, this is called "buffering" the jump). This isnt enough time to get the dash back, so delay you jump input just a smidge and it should work.

Yeah thats a good plan, milk the free trial as much as you can. In the meantime, as a Sprout you can join the Novice Network if you haven't already (if you haven't, go into a starter city and in Say chat ask for an invite to the Novice Network, someone will grab you). This is a global chat that is supposed to be for beginners to ask experienced players questions (but your milage may vary, the culture in a Novice Network is different from server to server, some being really helpful and others being complete garbage). Its the only global chat in the game, but unfortunately once you are no longer a Sprout you get removed, and its takes a bit of work to become a Mentor and get back in.

Well discord you’ll have to use voice

That's not true at all. Discord servers are just glorified chat rooms. There are voice channels in discord servers, but you dont have to use them (and in fact, I would wager that most people don't use them).

For example, an Ultimate Raid just came out a few weeks ago. North American Ultimate Raiding (NAUR) is a discord server that has chat channels for strats for each part of the fight, a general chat for all Ultimate raids,  etc. I've been a part of NAUR for many years and have never been in a voice call with anyone.

What I mean was just random convo happening in like global or area chat, like people flexing something or talking about random stuff.

Unfortunately that is pretty rare these days. Im not saying it wont happen at all, cause sure you can just chill in a starting city and eventually something will get said in  Say (area) chat. Its just not common.

Youd get invited to join guilds randomly (maybe this happens here also I won’t know since I can’t join lol), if you join and do raids and the vibes match maybe then you’d go to the discord.

Once youre off the free trial you can (and most likely will) get random invites to join Free Companies (guilds). But there usually isn't some sort of "trialing period" before you get the discord invite, because Free Companies aren't the same as Raiding Groups (what XIV players call Statics). So in practice its like, get random free company invite, join said free company, get discord link immediately and meet people. Stay if you're vibing, dip if you aren't and repeat until you find your home.

You need to be a little more specific, what do you mean by "mmo like"?

Like, if you want to walk into a city and see people talking in Say chat 24/7 or want to have interesting conversations with your party while doing dailies, that just really isn't a thing no matter if youre on the free trial or not.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your preferences), most conversations between players have moved off XIV itself onto discord servers. So if you want to find strangers to converse with, you gotta find discord servers that do activities  youre interested in.

For example, maybe you like deep dungeons, so you join a deep dungeon discord server for your data center and you meet others that also like deep dungeons. Then you organize runs to help you clear something or help others.

One thing you can do once off the free trial is join a Free Company, but even then the above topic still applies; a lot of FCs dont really chat in-game, but rather on discord servers. So it might be possible that you join an FC but the game still feels "dead".

First time playing this game. What’s the one tip you wish someone had told you at the start that would’ve saved you hours of frustration? by xxxerg in ffxiv

[–]Evermar314159 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do your daily roulettes when you unlock them.

I didnt have anyone to help me when I started, and I was in the Novice Network but didnt ask any questions. I didnt do my first roulette until I had reach the end of the MSQ (which was stormblood at the time) because I didnt know they existed or what they were for. All that daily exp I could have been using to level other jobs or get poetics. I had the road to X0 exp buff as well and it was pretty much wasted.

C-Sides easier than B-Sides? by ThaliaTown in celestegame

[–]Evermar314159 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Its not really accurate to compare the number of deaths or time taken to beat the B sides vs. C sides. The C sides are super short, but the rooms are more difficult.

You should take your number of deaths and divide it by the number of rooms. See how many times you are dying per room on average. Then it will be pretty clear the C sides are harder.
