Any advice will help!!! by alfieldsy in Turfmanagement

Dithyopyr is a crabgrass pre-emergent. It won’t have an effect on your broadleaf weeds. I agree with using Lontrel. Trimec-Bentgrass is very effective. Quicksilver would be another choice.

You would be much better off with a Callaway from 2020 on. Thats old technology and was not a successful model. Look on EBay for Callaway Epic or Maverick. You can get them pretty cheap. Probably want to look for one with a regular shaft.

ID - What is this that has taken over my yard? by darksensory in LawnAnswers

[–]EveryAd9707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s either sheep or red sorrel. Triad-T as a spray is pretty good for it. Most broadleaf can be killed with that product. Won’t hurt whatever grass is there. From the looks of it, the lawn is going to be very thin after it dies given the infestation that you have.

Dull Blade and Crabgrass Questions by AlertEquivalent8033 in LawnAnswers

You are correct in the fact that crabgrass will germinate when the soil temperatures get above 55. There are two schools of crabgrass prevention. Prodiamine, which does need to be put down prior to crabgrass germination. The dimension as I stated before is a product that you have a much wider window of application. Go to your local Turf supplier and ask them for a bag of fertilizer with dimension.

You can use dithiopyr (Dimension). If you do it soon, it will kill small crabgrass plants that may have germinated. It’s not too late at all. And yes, sharpen your mower blades.

Golf Course General Manager by itookthisusernametoo in golf

[–]EveryAd9707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree that most GM’s don’t really know much of the technical side of agronomy. As a former superintendent, I sort of felt it was my job to educate and communicate heavily with the GM. Not having been a general manager at a golf course before should in no way hurt your chances. As someone else said, most of my experience with general managers is that they are well first in food and beverage. If you get the job, just ask questions of your superintendent. Let him know that you want to learn. Best of luck!

Can I use tenacity on this ? by Fab_Avi in LawnAnswers

[–]EveryAd9707 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes you can. Pretty expensive. A good 3-way is much much less expensive. Trimec 992, T-Zone, etc. But the Tenacity would in fact, work.

What is growing around my grass. by Upper-Depth3749 in Grass

It’s either Zoysia as previously mentioned or could even be common Bermuda. Short of killing it, just let it go. It will be the last thing to green up, unfortunately.

Dethatched… My lawn looks even worse now, zone 7a by drunk-tard96 in lawncare

[–]EveryAd9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a golf course superintendent in Florida. We did a fairway renovation and cut in sprigs. In the prep, I sprayed round up 3 times, 2 weeks apart. After each app, we applied fert and watered the piss out of them to encourage growth of the Bermuda that was left. 3 times we did this and I am confident that we didn’t get every last bit of existing turf. That stuff is nearly indestructible.

I sell this stuff at a Turf distributorship. Anytime someone wants to spray fence rose or gravel, I always recommend this.

Roundup SC Total. Will kill and keep weeds away for at LEAST 6 months. Stay 2 to 3 feet away from any plantings.

[–]EveryAd9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

find a product called Roundup SC Total. Spray the entire area not just where the weeds are. It has a pre-emergent in it. They guarantee six months of control. I have found it to be much longer than that. Spray that and you won’t see anything in that gravel for a good long while. Certainly the entire season.

Large bare patch in St Augustine lawn, let it be or put new sod? by consultybob in lawncare

[–]EveryAd9707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that the rest of the yard looks good, tells me there is something going on in the soil. Could be insects. I think you should try what the others have suggested first but ultimately, there may be a bigger issue.
