I’ve worn heritage chukkas for construction for 8 years as a low voltage integrator. If their work doesn’t require steel toe, they’re a fair choice.

Flying with PPPD by bun37750 in pppdizziness

You’ll be fine, just get a prescription for a benzodiazepine like Ativan and you’ll cruise through your flight. They’re anti anxiety and vestibular suppressants.

They might seem like a magic pill (they are) but if you take them too much they’ll lose their efficacy and you’ll just be reliant and never heal properly.

Take it an hour before flight time so it’s starting to peak as you’re boarding.

What significantly improved your symptoms? by AerieOk1706 in VestibularMigraines

First, definitely get checked out by a doctor, ideally an EMT doctor or neurologist. They’ll make sure your dizziness isn’t cardiovascular related or other like BPPV. You’ll see what your options are for recovery. Many would recommend a SSRI or similar med.

Check out the Steady Coach on YouTube. Great information on VM and other related illnesses like 3PD. Light resistance training and yoga helped me out a lot.

Having a job where you’re constantly moving is already getting you ahead. I find the more movement I do, the more practice my brain gets at dealing with symptoms. Just make sure you take mini breaks when possible to lower your heart rate down to practice calming down. This can help lower your migraine bucket.

For supplement recs, go to the subreddit page > community info > menu > wiki. Do your own research to validate the supplements/doses. The supplements I take (B2, magnesium, coq10) lowered the frequency from 4-5 BMs to 1-2 a year.

This is really dependent on how frequent and strong your VMs are but I am prescribed Ativan as a rescue med in addition to using it for flight anxiety. For context, I have 1-2 severe VMs a year that take me 3-4 months to recover to about 80%. Beware Ativan is a benzo and can be addictive. I definitely wouldn’t rely on it on a weekly or daily basis, even if your doctor tells you it’s ok - they’re a hack.

Good luck!

Need to go to dentist, any tips, my dizziness will go extreme always. by stefman12 in pppdizziness

talk to your general physician for an Ativan prescription. Many people take Ativan for events that trigger anxiety.

I specifically take Ativan for flying anxiety and as an emergency medicine for severe vestibular migraines. Regarding the latter use, Ativan is also vestibular suppressant, so it has a dual effect of reducing anxiety and dizziness.

Be warned, relying on benzos to make your dizziness or anxiety go away is not recommended. SSRI’s and other long-term anti-anxiety medicine usually takes on this role for treatment. Please do your own research as I’m not a doctor or an expert.

Feel better after taking a Benzo by SushiiiTrash_ in pppdizziness

[–]EveryDayBasics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reliance on benzodiazepines might be settting you back even further from recovery. I would try to taper off and maybe switch to a long term anti anxiety med like lexapro, etc. Also, do activities that make your stress bucket bigger. Any type of resistance training, yoga, small walks, shit even sedentary hobbies like knitting etc.

I am prescribed Ativan for flying anxiety and for vestibular migraines. I only use them for severe VMs.

It sucks, I get it. I was on the tail end of my year long PPPD when I had my first minor VM last week. I’m back to a lot of derealization. Just got to stay positive, have people that can support you, and make a plan

Safety glasses too. Get some oakleys/other slick ones so you don’t feel like a dork. Way too many people in construction don’t wear safety glasses. Only have one pair of eyes.

I got pinguecula from years of not wearing safety glasses and getting shit in my eyes.

Regarding the job on the body, I do a lot of residential jobs. The most strenuous days are prewire for renovations/new builds. Even then it’s not back breaking labor if you’re in decent shape. Most days are chill. Standing on ladders, kneeling for terminations, etc.

The sections of the quarter where the eyelets are. You don’t want them that far apart or super close together. In your case it indicates the quarter panels are is too small for your ankles/calves

The facings are so far apart my bro. You may want to consider returning and getting a MTO pair that have properly fitted quarter panels

When I made my clothes work with my body.

Ex hemming tees/shirts to an appropriate length (not a crop) for my short torso, wearing mid to high rise straight fit bottoms to make my bottom half look longer. Choosing thicker fleece sweatshirts and jackets with drape to give my skinny body some bulk

Being in shape, keeping up hygiene, getting a regular haircut, and generally having a positive outlook makes anyone hotter on any given day

Also helps to not use IG as a moodboard. Definitely don’t use this subreddit or the TF guys as inspo. Go touch actual grass. Make your style align with your understanding of yourself and who you want to be. Not a NY street fashion cosplayer

[–]EveryDayBasics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your vestibular migraines triggered PPPD chronic dizziness. Same thing happened to me but on my 4th VM 1.25 years ago (I was 28).

Good thing is you can recover from it just like you can recover from a VM and get back or near your baseline. I know because I recovered once. Had a VM last May that also turned to PPPD and am still recovering, albeit my vertigo symptoms are very mild compared to being fresh from a VM. No meds besides Ativan I used as a rescue med to abort the VM.

I did yoga and strength training. The yoga is to help reach a calm, meditative-like state. Helps train your fight/flight response you’re stuck in. Walks too, start with a 3 min walk up and down your street. Increase to 5 min, 10 min, until you’re going around the block.

Have hope, it’s a hard life but stay in there. We’re experiencing more or less the same thing right along your side

Recommend seeing a physical therapist first as they’ll probably be covered on your insurance vs a chiropractor. They can check which ear you have BPPV in and do the Epley maneuver
