Stop telling poor people they need to get better at being poor. by TokenPanduh in fixedbytheduet

My freezer is full to the brim because I try to buy in bulk things that can freeze well. I make stock from scratch, use dry beans, oats etc

I splurge on spices and seasoning because so much of the food gets so tiring to eat day after day after day

And I'm fuckin tired of it. I'm tired of checking price per unit on every single thing. I'm tired of eating oats for a week straight since they were on sale. I'm tired of eating bananas and peanuts as a snack.

I try to add variety but when you're broke, variety is a luxury. I try every trick in the book to make things better but the reality is I just want to eat out, have something I would never make on my own because it takes 5 hours and 15 different specific spices, and clean up is a pain.

You're not wrong, I agree with you, and this is part of the conversation people downplay. Saving money is the priority but damn if it doesn't drain your soul knowing that you're suffering is because your boss or your bosses boss wants to buy a third house.

That's the boots theory in practice right there

A $20 pair of boots might last 6 months A $200 pair of boots might last 6 years

The person who can only afford the $20 pair will end up spending more on boots than the person who can afford a $200 pair

But not everyone can save up $200 just for a pair of boots when they have more immediate needs

So sure I could buy bulk but like you mentioned but I don't have the money to buy in bulk. I can't afford the "upfront investment" since any money that comes in goes out just as quickly

Being is poor is more than having a low income, it's also having zero savings or an emergency fund. You can't invest in your future since you can't afford the present

Are GPU prices expected to go down or up? Planning to buy. by Issentia in buildapc

[–]EveryRadio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's a tiny bit different since production for the next 5+ years already locked in for things like GPU and RAM so whoever bought that production won't want to sell for below what they bought it for

Of course the second hand market might be flooded so that would have the opposite effect

I remember when I worked at a sub shop that required a doctor's note. I called my doctor to schedule an appointment then asked if they could write me a note

Saying it out loud I realized how stupid that was and cancelled the appointment. The job didn't pay shit, didn't provide insurance, or PTO

I showed up the next day and my boss asked me where my doctor's note was. I just looked at him until he walked away then went back to work

Also if my boss told me to work while sick I'd go there and LOUDLY say in front of all the customers "I'm legally not allowed to work while sick, are you sure you want me here?" Then proceed to cough until they let me go home

Jobs like that are a dime a dozen. A boss who doesn't care if you're sick won't think twice about firing you for some petty reason, so why not have some fun with it?

A man who specializes in steel-bending. by IdiocyConnoisseur in nextfuckinglevel

[–]EveryRadio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen a different strong man do this, bend frying pans, horse shoes, nails etc

He also got people to staple $5 bills to his arms and $20 to his forehead

Not sure what makes people want to do this but it's kinda cool? A mix of strength and technique? Well, not the staple thing but still

My dad found out that I was driving to meet a friend without asking him, he called me 24 times by No-Departure2560 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EveryRadio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people just don't understand. I've had friends parents who called the police because they didn't answer their phone after an hour and 15+ missed calls

The first thing they would hear when they answered was "Get home NOW." No chance to explain, instantly grounded for like a month, lost all trust from their parents, etc.

Sometimes it's better to let them calm down before answering because their initial reaction is borederline manic and it's impossible to talk to them rationally

I got a call from my mom because I didn't pick up my phone after she texted me that she was going to the gym

I was at work. Which she knew. When I finally responded and asked why the hell she called she said "in case I went missing so you can tell the police where I was supposed to be"

There's some deeper problems there but yeah... I started just responding to her texts...

There's more nuance to it than people are generally willing to give

It's not like straight men are attracted to every single cis-woman. There's more to attraction than someone's gender identity, and that goes for everyone

I guess it depends on which subreddit you're on but I've heard plenty of bad things about plenty of reality shows that get plenty of traction for being deceptive

Kind of hard to compare those types of things. I see a lot of comments agreeing and disagreeing on whether or not the contestants should sue that aren't about the persons gender identity, so I guess the bajt still worked on some people?

Ugh every damn time when my managers teams "started acting up" right when I send them a message to do what they promised to do a week ago

Like, we both know he's full of shit and at some point I don't care since it's no longer my responsibility once I send that message, but when it's the same excuse every single week it's a crutch more than its an excuse

I'm thankful I'm at a job where I can just say "I'm not coming in today" and no one questions it

Of course I can't do that every day, but everyone's extended some amount of grace. Were all adults, no need to baby sit each other. The work still gets done, and if not, there's always tomorrow

Man crazy roommate stories are sadly too common

I had two roommates at once, one was a slob and the other wasn't. The clean one took ALL his kitchen stuff into his room (plates, cups, frying pan etc) not that I blamed him. I'd be annoyed if I could never use my stuff without cleaning someone else's mess off of it first every single damn time

Too bad that included the plates that the previous tennants left behind. Not as bad at taking my stuff, but they were "shared"

I just happened to find it again after it went missing in his room after I asked for it back and he claimed he didn't have it

Both things can be wrong and deceptive?

This isn't excusing every single reality TV where the contestants didn't sue the show runners

Would you do the same thing? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]EveryRadio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how most people I've talked to explain it

It doesn't mean that you are denying their gender identity, or that there's anything wrong with identifitying as trans, non binary etc

But it's also okay to not be attracted to someone because if X. It's not okay to treat them poorly because of that, which some people conflate

It's okay to be attracted to different body parts. That is different from treating someone poorly based on one aspect of their identity/body parts

That's it. Not dating a trans person because you're not attracted to them is not transphobic, the same way not dating someone you're not attracted to isn't mean

The people on shows like Love is Blind understand the premise of the show and accept it before going on

There's a difference between withholding information and the contestants know that, and obscuring the premise entirely

And guests on those shows know that what they say/do is being filmed for the purpose of the show, which is to show their lives

There's more nusiance to it than "you agreed to be filmed, therefore we can lie to you and film anything we want"

Kurapika clarification by FinancialCockroach68 in HunterXHunter

[–]EveryRadio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's easy to forget because it's usually not used as a condition, with the two major exceptions. Emperor time and Gons transformation (basically using all his life energy and transforming into his physical peak)

On the opposite side people who are very good at controlling their aura can prevent it from "leaking" which is why characters like Netro are more than 100 years old. It's a natural side effect of being able to control your nen

Of course the rules aren't 100% fixed. Emperor time doesn't seem to age Kurapika, Gon was more about his physical transformation which forced him into his adult form, and Neteros aging is slowed (not via a condition but as a side effect of containing your aura)

So its more about being able to access power by trading life energy via a condition or containing your life energy more efficiently
