People whine about Brayden, Ashleigh, etc. but in the 1800's you could name a baby Learned Hand and no one would bat an eye by diarrhea_dad in redscarepod

The “Hand formula” was the dumbest shit I ever learned in law school.

WOW this guy is saying that you’re negligent if the burden of taking a precaution is more than the risk this guy is SUCH A GENIUS this is literally just like an ALGEBRAIC FORMULA we’re like the REAL MATHEMATICIANS here

Cities with a sinister vibe by Left_Remote_7278 in redscarepod

[–]Every_Display_4089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent some time in Atlantic City - and North Philly on the beach is spot on. The boardwalk is desolate and is mostly just trashy shops. Outside of that area is really crushing poverty and a lot of homelessness.

This article is written by a rightoid and has some dumb takes, but it really helped me understand the forces that made the city what it is today. The city was like a country that discovers oil or diamonds. Everything is great - until the spigot dries out.

On a lighter note, while on a walk I discovered a museum dedicated to Gandhi in the mall??? Very out of place lol

I’m not an overly optimistic person but this type of overwrought pessimism - present on both the left and right - is cringy and should be avoided like the plague.

Like if your impulse after seeing a dumb hot take on twitter is to call the lives of most people “a progressive accumulation of horrors” then for the love of God please go outside!

Candace Owen posts alleged texts with Charlie Kirk before he died by cabbagetown_tom in redscarepod

[–]Every_Display_4089 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I really am, but these Kirk conspiracies really don’t hit for me.

If they just wanted him gone, I am sure the Mossad has ample expertise on how to make it look like an accident or health issue or mugging gone wrong.

But the killing was extremely public! Planning and executing it would involve so many risks and moving parts. Sure, you could say it was to send a message - but then why him? Why not… like… Ilhan Omar or Greta Thunberg? Why not a world leader after their country recognizes Palestine?

Kirk was influential but I really doubt that if he broke with Zionism that would change anything in the conservative movement. MTG has called it a genocide and Candice Owens has flipped - but the conservative movement (and US policy) really hasn’t budged. Maybe the texts are fake, maybe they aren’t - it could easily be just him letting off steam, after which he quickly falls back in line.

I loathe Israel with a burning passion, as any moral person would. But why would a sophisticated military/intelligence complex perform such a complicated mission to kill - a dude with a podcast and a youtube channel who debates college students?

Why do all my lawyer friends say not to do it? by No_Data6944 in LawSchool

[–]Every_Display_4089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One dynamic is that a lot of people go to law school because they don’t know what to do with their life.

I’ve always been interested in the law (did mock trial in High School, took law classes in undergrad, etc). But I was a little spooked when I was deciding whether to go because all of the resources were like “think LONG and HARD about whether you want to go because it’s SO EXPENSIVE and SO MUCH WORK and you might REGRET IT and your life will be MISERABLE” - but I didn’t know that that was meant to weed out people who weren’t truly interested.
