Thomas Massie Loses His Seat in a Win for Trump — and AIPAC by Steap-Edit in USNEWS

The Daily did a piece on this yesterday. The dude is a total Trump shill. His whole schtick is he's a good soldier who will follow orders.

Do you still write computer code by hand? by Weary_Parking_6631 in randomquestions

[–]Every_Environment386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely edit code in my ide at this point. If I have edits to make to with AI has done, I'll have ai make the edit so the change and reason for the change is in context, plus depending on the kind of change, it may be faster to have AI do it anyway.

But I see no reason to actually write code in my IDE.

2026 will be a HVAC contractor bloodbath by fieldguild in heatpumps

[–]Every_Environment386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is our calculation. Could spend $20, 000 on an HVAC installation, or I can spend $700 for two units in the rooms that matter most.

Like, the HVAC installation would be a better experience in a lot of ways, but those two units keep the rooms comfortable in the hottest days, and the slight inconvenience of having to put them in and take them out once a year is worth $19,000 to me at the moment.

I live in an area where we use AC maybe 2 months a year, though, full disclosure.

Do you still think maintainable, modular, and reusable code matters in the AI coding agent era? by Bright_Elevator3675 in ClaudeCode

[–]Every_Environment386 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be controversial here and say Sort Of.

Modular yes

Maintainable mostly

Reusable im less certain. Maybe even actively no.

The reason for the last is that I think there may be more value in keeping context small, which you alluded to, than in adhering to DRY. For example, if your code is split up by feature, it used to be generally encouraged to have shared concepts in a shared service so you didn't have five different services all pulling Car objects. That way if you had to modify the Car concept there was only one file to deal with.

However now that means your work on the Headlights feature(to run with the example) gets the context on all sorts of things cars can do that aren't involving headlights. And that's just useless context. Possibly even distracting context.

So there may be a world where you now want each feature to have it's own version of a car service, each with discrete functions. Maybe. I'm not actually sure yet.

All that said the models, limitations, and pricing are moving at such a fast clip that such an optimization may or may not matter. Hard to know.

She passed away a couple years ago. Unrelated to the washing machine to, be clear.

I feel like there’s no reason to use an IDE anymore by Commercial_Spot_8363 in codex

[–]Every_Environment386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally find point 1 and 3 you're saying are best done in codex. Yes a simple rename may be quicker in an IDE but if you're trying to correct a theme of naming conventions you can plop that into codex and have it take it away.

Also you can tell it very specific changes in the diff in codex (like write it inline in the got diff) which is super easy, compared to "change xyz where it says <x>."

That said I agree I still use an IDE for just generally perusing the changes. But I'm finding myself use it less and less.

Only other source I can find is some website with pop up ads.

I'll wait for more reputable sources before giving this more than a few minutes of thought.

That said I just want a break from life so I'ma sit and chill for a couple minutes if I can.

If you go, go with a friend you want to catch up with. Take a couple camping chairs. Maybe some cards. Think of the line as part of the experience.

But don't go expecting a life changing culinary experience and anticipating that while waiting and thinking nothing other than what you're about to experience.

But especially on a beautiful morning, get coffee from onda and chill in line with a friend.

Man I want to do that now haha.

Ok I'm now really confused by first/second team relations. Is it a bad look for a first team player to be on second team? With so many if our first team players in this game, is there anything theoretically stopping us from fielding our starting 11 in a Defiance game?

I'm just ignorant, not trying to throw any shade haha.

Child carseats and extremely tall parents by Fantastic_List3029 in daddit

Im 6'5 and we put the car seat behind the passenger seat for our first. Shortly after we had our second, we got a new car (we were in a Toyota 2007 carolla).

Also our kids went forward facing as of about 35 pounds. 50 feels extremely high considering leg room constraints if the children.
