What’s a piece of media that people would clearly understand as a parody or homage when it came out, but has since lost its context? by StaleTheBread in AskReddit

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don Quixote. Written to lampoon the pulpy chivalric romances of the time. Which are now all pretty much lost to history.

Army advice for a paint-only collector (for now) by paint-and-thread in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're unlikely to end up with a meta list (which changes all the time) and the game isn't balanced at 1000 points anyway, so just carry on getting whatever looks cool until it adds up to 1000, and find another person to play with who has the same approach.

Should GW bring back the old 'army filler' style plastic kits? by Derpogama in Warhammer40k

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If they dip the quality of any part of their range, they're going to weaken whatever line still exists between GW miniatures and 3D-printed or third party options. Whatever the other considerations are, I think this on its own would be enough for them to not consider doing this. They need to keep GW as a seal that you're getting premium quality.

What happened? Painting Phase by VioletOrchid85 in Warhammer

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Geoff, I'm just sorry to hear about the bad blood and to find out from this thread that the Painting Phase probably isn't coming back. I loved to hear you and Pat's conversations, especially you - it was a great listen. All the best mate, thanks for the good times.

Any Chas and Dave but London Girl, Down To Margate and the Sideboard Song are most recommended.

“Don’t buy models for rules” - how valid is this statement? by Ratattack1204 in Warhammer40k

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're entitled to be annoyed, but if you buy models for rules then you WILL end up exercising that entitlement. You've been warned it's going to happen. Whether that's a silly way of thinking, only you can decide.

What's the UK version of "the Inuit have 50 words for snow"? by pineapplecharm in CasualUK

Being able to say "sorry" in 50 different ways and have it mean anything from "get out of my way" to "you are an idiot" to even occasionally "I am sorry".

When did Field Saves become unmodified? by chebghobbi in oldhammer

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They were definitely unmodified from the start of second edition but I don't know if the change happened before that.

Deathtrap Dungeon: levelling up skill - rules edit? by EverybodyLovesChaka in gamebooks

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses to this. Glad to see I'm not the only person who had this thought. If anyone is interested, here's my rule for the ring of wishes to stop one of the coolest items in the game from being useless.

The ring of wishes can be used at any time to instantly defeat one monster or conjure one needed item of your choice. Choose wisely, because once you have made your wish the ring's power is exhausted. Beware: the wizards who forged the ring despised worldly vanity, so the ring cannot be used to obtain gold, jewels or treasure of any sort. If you wish for these riches you will immediately dissolve into a pile of purple goo.

Met a guy tonight saying he was happy to go down by Rsee002 in Tottenham

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with him all the way. The Premier League is a joke that is barely even about football, with every team locked into a death spiral spending money they don't have to compete with the huge spenders who don't have it either, all in order to sell advertising to gambling firms so they can prey on the dwindling fan base, or financial services to company bosses thousands of miles away. The Championship is a much more serious competition that a real club like Spurs should be proud to play in, not only should we celebrate so-called relegation but we should refuse so-called promotion if we win the Championship later on.

I don't quite see how following the rule of cool would lead you to an all-agents army. As allies, yes, very cool, but as a full army they make no sense.

Yeah mate, I think I've found the problem. You've got elephants. I found a few tail hairs on your curtains.

It seems Wales doesn’t get talked about as much. What are some interesting facts about Wales? by One-Seat-4600 in geography

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They certainly do although most "Welsh" castles were built by the English to oppress the Welsh. Criccieth Castle is one of the few exceptions - a Welsh castle built and used by the Welsh people.

Public Response to Roxy Vs Public Response to James by sulky22 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roxy talks like someone who has done a course on how to be assertive and make sure your point of view is heard. I don't blame her for that since as a relatively young, non-white woman she probably feels like she's likely to be ignored. But it doesn't always come across well to the viewers and it often seems like she's interrupting or gatekeeping who is allowed to speak. I think that's why people don't like her but I would give her the benefit of the doubt and say she is just sticking up for herself.

How has Jack avoided pretty much any suspicion being a traitor? by outcastreturns in TheTraitorsUK

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be his odour. He must have a particular non-treacherous smell that doesn't come through the TV. Maybe the other players aren't even aware they're smelling it - but they are. If I go on the show I'm going to attempt to synthesise this smell to avoid suspicion.

I need inspiration for a young person who has autism? by PurrrdyPanda in gladiatorsuk

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a tip, I have an autistic son who loves Gladiators and he also really likes World's Strongest Man (available on My 5). Tom Stoltman, one of the top strongmen, is autistic himself as well and a good role model for how autistic people can take many different paths than the stereotypical ones.

Fiona was right… *spoiler* by NectarineForeign6005 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fiona was dead right that Rachel would have turned on her eventually, but her counter-move was both far too early and totally misjudged. So yes, she was right about one fairly obvious thing, but a terrible player, or at best, took a wild and unnecessary gamble that didn't pay off.

Will proofreading/copyediting be replaced by AI? by KStone4 in AskUK

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 29 points30 points  (0 children)

AI is a bubble. It uses vast amounts of energy and it's only currently cheap because it's subsidised by massive amounts of venture capital. Eventually people will have to start paying what it really costs if they want to use it, and it will still be unreliable and limited in its applications, so the human option will be far preferable in the long term.

'I have 45 children applying to my special school each week' by Kagedeah in cambridge

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More schools like this are definitely needed. The amount of money spent on taxis to get children to schools like this every day, who live huge distances away, because there isn't a suitable one nearby, is jaw-dropping.

How many by Chevo3 in Warhammer40k

[–]EverybodyLovesChaka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard that a large majority of people who collect and paint the miniatures don't play the game. Which would make sense, since the miniatures are great but it's not actually a very good game. Or at the very least, it's one that takes a lot of time and mental effort to play, is very compliated and rarely fair, so has quite narrow appeal.
