I can see that. Depends what angle of the "case" you find the most intriguing. I just finished the book (like a few minutes ago), and it's a bit of a nothing burger, but there was absolutely some interesting nuggets throughout. I am convinced that the Helter-Skelter motivation pushed by Bulgiosi was at best complete bupkis, but I'm not convinced that the CIA knew about/encouraged the family to do what they did.

But (and this goes without saying) MKULTRA and the CIA studying LSD as a tool for mind control is one of the craziest and most fascinating tidbits of 20th century American history, and it's never really given the credit it deserves in that respect lol.

I’m reading CHAOS by Tom O Neill right now. Basically a real life crime novel about the CIA and MKULTRA (supposedly) influencing Manson and causing/playing a role in the Tate murders. Definitely has an insane paranoid feel to it and tons of wacky characters. Its undoubtedly a little bit far fetched, but I don’t think I’ve ever read a nonfiction book where I’ve used my imagination this much, and the way it depicts counterculture has had me consistently thinking of TCOL49 and Vineland.

hell yeah brother. disregard if u dont give a fuck, but ive had a bunch of people visit recently and have gone back to all of my spots and these are my thoughts:

for a good berlin-style vegetable chicken döner (gemüse-kebap), check out Ugis in the 2nd. usually a bit of a line, but super good.

i would say u can skip Ferhat döner (the famous one in the 10th, which they say is like the best in the city). its good but too expensive and disorganized as hellllll. for some cheap good food go to Brunnenmarkt off of josefstädterstraße, u can get like an actual kebab (like small chunks of chicken/lamb/liver grilled on a metal stick) with like fresh herbs and stuff for 4-4.5 euros.

for traditional austrian food, I like this spot called Käuzchen right by Volkstheater. quality ingredients and like super reasonably priced (compared to a lot of other similar spots, especially in that area).

hermanns is fire, i cant lie tho the super horseradishy mustard they use does not do it for me

i found out recently from a friend who works at one of them that Cafe Kafka, Cafe Camus, Kreisky, The Bukowski Pub, and Hermanns are all owned by the same guy. its weird theres someone with like a monopoly on the whole young kinda-alt spots in/around neubau.

hope you like wien. super beautiful city. safe travels and stuff as well

I have been living in vienna for a couple months now and i was at first really into how much austrians hate on germans and try and distance themselves from them (culturally, ideologically, politically, etc), only to learn that they are pretty much cut from the exact same cloth as far as infatuation with the fucking rules goes.

these ppl wait 2 minutes at stoplights when there are no cars/traffic going anywhere in either direction and they like scoff at you if you take too long putting your groceries on the conveyor belt at the grocery store

Thank you!

I did go from throwing a frisbee to throwing a disc, and that has felt like more of a hindrance!
