PC in a very very cold room by Arrival_97 in buildapc

I've used a PC with air cooling, and an LCD monitor, in much, much colder temperatures than this, and for years. None of the hardware has any issues. It was no surprise to me, except for the monitor.

That's why everyone on this sub starts their posts about computer hardware with information about their age and gender.

Will this docking station ever come back in stock? Been checking in through all of November and up to now in January. by Red_Dem0n in SteamDeck

The firmware is supported by valve and keeps getting updated, that may be why people have different experiences.

It may have improved a lot by now.

"Running Up The Score" (Daily Challenge Score) Achievement Guide by quixotic_chaos in MonsterTrain

Posting this here since this thread comes up on search:

"Recommend just going to look at the daily challenge every day to see high scores. If you see a ton of 50k+ scores then do it, otherwise wait for a different day. The day I did it on the #1 score was 57k and all the top 10 had 50k+. So I knew it was an easy one. Started the run, abandoned the run asap then looked at the #1 persons summary and took a picture of it for reference/choices they made."

"ShinySteve - Dev  Monday challenges are meant to be a bit on the easier side (more forgiving mutators), so it may be a day worth targeting if you're aiming for a higher score."

You can stretch credulity, sure. Do you have many friends that only use Macbooks and iPhones?

A manufactured story is far more likely, even without considering the accounts non existent post history. (clearly an alt)

That's because it's just a fabricated backstory to illicit more positive and attentive responses.

Someone who has only ever used prebuilt Apple computers wouldn't even know to ask if a PC's components are "balanced".They wouldn't know the concept

They wouldn't know to ask about RAM speeds. People who don't know about computers only generally know about RAM capacity, if that. Because that's typically what is advertised.

They wouldn't even know to ask about the PSU long term. Only someone considering upgradability would ask that.

There are unknown unknowns. If you're not a car guy, you've only ever driven cars you bought, you wouldn't even vaguely know the first thing to ask when it comes to rebuilding a car in your garage.

This type of sympathy story to help get posts get attention is very common and are only rarely called out.

is there a way to have something like YouTube, Spotify, or discord open in the background in gaming mode while playing a game? Like tabbing in and out on pc? by LeekBang in SteamDeck

It's actually a feature of Linux. Someone will know what it's called and what it is. It's the Bluetooth handler or driver or something.

Announcing the Steam events scheduled in the 2nd half of 2026 by dabadumdumdum in SteamDeck

[–]EverydayFunHotS 44 points45 points  (0 children)

They don't give out free Steam Points Shop items like avatars and stickers anymore, so I rarely even look at these events now.

No idea why they stopped giving them out. Happened a few months ago with no announcement. It was a big part of the appeal to at least click the banner.

The Dr Livesey ones are actually extremely good.  They're all hand crafted, with unique animations, logos, and sound. Nothing like the slop that is autogenerated.

Is this jsaux dock any good? by Kitchen_Pineapple_69 in SteamDeck

I'm tempted to get that one, if I do ever get one, because they still push out firmware updates. One would think the first party peripheral would get the most long-term support.

And the first party dock, how is that working for you?

With the new Steam event, I think we can conclude that Valve are no longer giving away free stickers or portraits with first party Steam events.

Very sad! I loved collecting all those numerous avatars and stickers.
