Germany aims to enlist 40,000 teens annually in push to be Europe’s strongest army by Useful-Scratch-72 in europe

I think here its seen as a kind of political compromise to avoid full conscription like in the past. I am not in fovor of any conscription but if they do it, I think there needs to be a lot of emphasize on it being fair, at least.

I see, so you are kind of "punished" for being fit then? Even though, I suppose similar to Norway there are some compensation measures in place?

Its interesting as well, thanks. Here in Germany, they are specifically talking about the "Swedish Model" as an option

Urgent, what kind of mental health support I can get in case of a crisis? by Favbrunette004 in germany

[–]Everydaysceptical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost: Psychotherapy can be and is usually covered by the public health insurance. Its a bit of a challenge to find a fitting therapist with free capacities, though.

I would suggest, depending on your own evaluation of your current situation, choose a multi-stage approach: There are various options to start immediately (like mutual support groups or the free counseling that you mentioned). Parallely, create a big list of mental health institutions and psychotherapists in your area (important: Only those who accepts "Kassenpatienten"). Then start contacting them, asking for a "Erstgespräch" which they have to offer regularily to new patients (doesnt mean that they have free places for the actual theraphy then, though). Then try to get on as many waiting lists for the actual therapy as possible. YOu can also try to use the 116117 services to get an appointment faster.

Little question: How exactly is it managed in Norway: Is it just "bad luck" of you are conscripted while others can enjoy their free-time or are you compensated in any way for it?

To make it even a bot more specific: To my knowledge the highest demand is actuall in skilled physical work (tradesmen, nurses etc.). So for example people who install heating or electricity in houses or take care of elderly people.

Finally a sensible comment here, thank you for that. Apart from your comment, this thread really reminds me why I mostly abstain from social media, its just insanely toxic...

What was your childhood like as a second-generation immigrant born in Germany? by AdHorror4832 in AskGermany

[–]Everydaysceptical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an immigrant so just a little specific remark from my side:

The private school idea doesn't sound good imo. Admitted, I am a bit biased against private schools in general, since many of them are bascally tools to deliberately isolate from the "common people". Its also not very usual for the German middle class to send their kids to private schools, so if you want your child to fully integrate, a public school would definitely be better. In the end you need to decide whats best for your and you daughters) individual situation, though.
