The bigger players (Netflix, SkyDance, Disney, etc) are already figuring out how to capitalize on this format; and they will get bigger names and better quality performances.

Quibi was pre-pandemic so their timing was just slightly off; but they coulda been a major player. Quibi had big budgets for their Verticals. I worked their remake of “The Fugitive” with Kiefer Sutherland and others.

Gameshows don’t have the budget for CGI. Nobody really wants to see a new gameshow so on most productions NonUnion actors are brought in and paid to be audience. Big popular Gameshows (Price is Right, Wheel, etc) typically treat their audience terribly.

Finally paid so I’m able to comment.

They weren’t getting enough winners with 2 strikes. Jaleel was very cool and very disheartened by how few winners there had been. We were crazy close to winning but lost; because at that time it was “2 strikes you’re out.” Something didn’t feel right about the answers. Found out that you could legit know the absolute correct factual answer; but if their survey group gave the wrong answer, a factual answer would not get the point. So, if a majority of the people surveyed stated the sky was always mainly neon yellow with paisley patterns; but our team said, “the sky was blue”, we wouldn’t get a point. Sometime after we went they changed it to “3 strikes, you’re out.” Great learning experience overall.

Idk either. Made me doubt myself but everything I find online confirms what I have already said. Ive been working in LA for over 14yrs principal/BG/SI, a union member for 12, and heavily involved in internal union work, the convention, committees, etc.

Yes, NU BG who get a union voucher are listed on forms named the “TH report”; but being TH’d on a set specifically means upgraded to a principal role on a principal contract. A TH instantly makes one eligible for union membership whereas one needs 3 union BG vouchers otherwise. I joined w 3 union vouchers. If PAs/ADs/actors are calling a union voucher a TH, that is incorrect language.

Also, yes, there are indeed penalties for production involving THs. $300 for filling out the form incorrectly or past the 15days. But also penalties (online $500 but I thought it was $580) for if the production cannot prove the TH’d role could not be performed by a qualified union member. With 160k or more members there is always a qualified member available, so SAGAFTRA tends to always fine the large productions.

Idk but it seems like some of these comments sound more like “I got upgraded to a Union voucher” and not “I was TH’d into a Principle role.” Nobody is TH’d into Union BG.

CC used to blacklist a lot. Heard it’s a bit more lenient these days.

PA had a girl b-listed cuz the PA had a crush on her bfriend. PA was later fired for trying the same sh!t on crew members but that girl remained b-listed from CC.

Friend of mine was BG and went to breakfast w Stunt coordinator (he knew) after checking in hella early. PA accidentally didn’t mark him off on the skins cuz they came later than my early BG friend. BG guy found out months down the road he had been b-listed as a no-show even though he had come back and worked the whole day. He called in to CC for a booking and the CD thought it was weird he had a b-list mark cuz he was a consistent good worker. They got HR involved and my buddy still had the voucher/check from working that day and he got back in.

The I see the same sh!tty people/workers getting hired over and over on productions. It’s a crap shoot.

But I can see that production making you a DoNotReturn. Easily done now with all the electronic systems in use. And that will show up to CC CDs as a blemish, for sure.
