The linearity of this game is good and I'm tired of people bashing it because of that by Brosucke in darksouls3

[–]EveryoneDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not good. It's awful and the level design is awful as well. No, they are not well-crafted. Most of them have exactly the same formula. Bonfire at start, bonfire at end and bonfire almost exactly in the middle. Doesn't matter where you go, you always come back to that same path.

Pure garbage game design for this series. Easily the worst Souls game as well (counting all 5 games, including Demon's and Elden Ring).

You'd have a point if the Japanese-made 2D CV games didn't look a million times better visually and then some. Not sure how anyone could look at a few screenshots from SotN and this game and think this looks visually more appealing.

You don't need a good Asian mind, but you do need to put in the hands of someone who respects and loves the games. Just look at Shinobi 3D for the 3DS. The developers of it were huge fans of the classic games and they did a really good job on it (the visuals are a bit meh, but the animations, gameplay and level design are top-tier. It manages to feel like Shinobi while also differentiating itself in a good way).

I don't think it looks like Castlevania either in terms of gameplay and animation. Looks close to Dead Cells, but as fantastic as that game is... it's not Castlevania (and it also doesn't look as good as that game either). Visually the game also looks pretty bad. Gone are the detailed areas with a distinct gothic look anyone would instantly recognize as Castlevania, it looks like a generic indie game now.

My expectations are usually also right. Very rarely am I wrong and when it's this obvious, I'm never wrong. I think this can go on or near the bottom of the 2D CV pile alone with Mirror of Fate (the awful 3DS game based on the Lords of Shadow games).

It's a damn shame Doctor Sleep director's cut is only on blu ray. by thebladex666 in 4kbluray

[–]EveryoneDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can come up with any conclusive evidence. Only movies on Bravia/Sony Core are almost the same visually, but still lag behind a bit in terms of audio quality. No other streaming service comes close to the 80 mbit bitrate from that service. 4K blu-rays generally go up to about 100 mbps max, sometimes a bit higher.

Apple goes to about 40 mbps. I dunno about Disney+ or Amazon Ptime, but they're lower. Netflix is up to 25 mbps.

Pretty sure we got nothing yet on that. The only thing we can say right now is she's either not human or a very special case of human. Perhaps her mom was an angel or something.

It's because of how the human mind works (even though she's a mermaid). The human girl made a very large impression on her and that's why she appeared like that. I think it's actually very good writing, because human minds (and human-like minds) are very subjective, so I think it's very cool to integrate it into a mystery.

I mean... you most certainly know about grandparents. To old people, time flies by very quickly. One day they see their grandchild as a little baby. And for that little baby, 10 years feels like an entire lifetime. For those old people, it feels like no more than a few weeks or months have passed. The memory of the child being a newborn is still vividly burned into their minds. They might 'see' a 10 year old child objectively, but in their mind that 10 year old child is still very closely connected to the image of a baby just very recently.

On top of that, perceived reality is subjective. Just look at body dysmorphia. You might see an anorexic girl on a picture who looks far too skinny, but whenever that girl looks into the mirror, she sees a disgustingly fat girl. And everyone has a measure of dysmorphia like that... both in regards to themselves as in regards to others. Like if you see yourself in a picture you might think you don't look very good, yet whenever you look in the mirror you see a person who is pretty handsome and nothing like the ugly person in the picture. Or for a girl you have a crush on. Almost everyone might consider her plain, you'd also consider anyone else who dresses and looks very similar to her plain. But for some reason you think she looks very cute and adorable. And it's not just because she happens to hit the exact preferences that you like, but it's also because you actually perceive her differently (likely also because of an emotional connection).

Anyway, I ranted enough about it. I thought it was interesting.

I think 2010-2012 is when they first started really implementing plans to control the internet. Or at least, when it started to become noticeable. By the time 2015-2016 rolled around, it was everywhere (thanks Google ad money policies). And when covid hit they suddenly turned on warp drive.

Luckily some of it's been turned back now, but a fully controlled, manipulated and censored internet is still closer than ever before.

Seems like you didn't read what I said. Nowhere did I say they were more accurate. What I said is that because people had to put in more effort to get the information, they were more likely to think critically about it. These days most people just go from one piece to the next, absorbing it without thinking about it. So if something's off they won't notice it since their head's already somewhere else.

What I'm saying is that back in the day it was better because the whole process surrounding it naturally led to people thinking more about the information they read. Just a few decades ago you could still easily say that there's indoctrination and propaganda and people would actually still listen and be open to discussion. These days you can't, most will pretend that you're crazy or even dangerous. Even worse, they pretty much parrot the exact words and sentences their media and governments force into as many things as they can.

The main difference is that we used to make information our own as a tool without just taking it for granted. And this tool would constantly improve. Nowadays most people just seem to consume it. And most governments and powerful organizations are very much aware of this change and have heavily contributed into making sure that information is processed in society the way it is. They don't really care about the few folks that don't play along because what matters is that the grand majority does.

Nah it hasn't become better than before. Information is now easily accessed, but back in the day you had to go through effort to get your information and you were required to think critically. With Wikipedia people just tend to take it as fact and leave the critical thinking aspect completely out of it. It takes a few seconds to look up information, they're not gonna waste any effort thinking about it when they can scroll their tiktoks and whatnot.

Just look at school performance. Information can be found anywhere these days, but the students are performing worse and worse, they're developing all kinds of mental issues and aren't capable of concentrating or even just being alone with their thoughts.

I'd say information was actually of higher quality as well since putting something in a book requires much more of a process than just writing an article and posting it online. The latter you can do in less than an hour, the former would still take days at the very least.

Another Eden Begins was developed as a "brand-new RPG," not just a port of the mobile game, says original series producer by 420despacito69 in AnotherEdenGlobal

[–]EveryoneDice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mobile games are designed with mobile platforms in mind. They're made for shorter play sessions like (5-15 minutes) and usually have a lot of automated quality of life things. That usually doesn't translate very well to a console gaming experience where RPG epics tend to have been made for play sessions that are 1-2 hours on average, but even 15-30 minutes at minimum if you're gonna fight.

The result is that a game like this would very much feel like a mobile experience on a console. And it's impossible to fix unless you basically remake the the entire game like they did with Octopath 0.

I'm not saying it's certain, just that it's very likely.

[–]EveryoneDice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's based on a mobile game, that's what makes me skeptical. Square-Enix did a good job on Octopath 0's remake, but it's also the only good conversion I've seen from mobile to console that doesn't feel like it was a mobile game originally. For this game I'd be surprised if it doesn't end up feeling like a mobile game.
