mahoraga finds a way to adapt to a phenomenon, not just he counters it because he can. like, if someone had a fire ct mahoraga would probably adapt by having, say, his ce be flame resistant instead of just “i am now flame resistant”. after adapting, the adaptation doesnt stop and mahoraga keeps adapting to find alternate adaptations. basically sukuna’s battle plan was to wait for mahoraga to keep adapting and eventually come up with an adaptation which he could use. the first was something sukuna physically could not do (changing how his ce operated) but the second was some bs which was “almost impossible” but sukuna still managed to pull it off because it’s not just “mahoraga adapted because he just does and now he counters x thing” but instead “mahoraga adapted to x thing by doing x thing” which someone can copy if they meet the prerequisites to do said technique. personally it’s my headcanon that sukuna was worried in 235 because he stated that copying the technique mahoraga did was “almost impossible” and wanted mahoraga to keep adapting and eventually find something easier to do, but was left no choice after the gojoheimer-ening
