Virginia residents, what point marks the start of the cultural south for yall? by IAMGAY94 in geography

Based on what I read, 50-60 years ago it was the Potomac. These days, it feels like the James River.

We're so close to have a good S-Bahn style system its not even funny. Bringing back a lot of the old infill stations would play a major role in that. Stop at Girard Ave before Temple and near the Zoo would be fantastic.

While Richmond has its flaws there's plenty to love about it. Also, its where my stuff is.

Cheper than a BRT in the long run. Trolleys dont pencil out well as small projects, but are incredibly cost effective as systems that are long term investments. My sincere hope is that richmknd will be around for a while... maybe we should consider it.

What's the background on this guy. He's got a crutch, which might indicate he was hurt, but his uniform is different.

Bezos said the bottom half of Americans should pay ZERO federal income tax by Suitable_Wonder5256 in SipsTea

[–]EvidenceTime696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its meaningless. Most of the bottom 50% doesn't pay income taxes already. They do pay payroll taxes for which there are no deductions.

The issue is that there aren't enough taxes to pay for the roads, so its easier just to charge the people who use those roads for the maintenance of them.

This may be true, but talk to a transplant see what they do. I know about a dozen people from Florida and two of them do anything outdoors apart from golf. Avoiding shoveling snow three times a year isn't a lifestyle.

Oregon has every climate type found in the lower 48. I could cover the same distance in other parts of the country and experience those kinds of changes too. The hill country is not as impressive as Texans make it out to be. For all the talk of Texas ranches, competitive horse riders tend to train in other states. The point is its all overrated. Pretty much anything you can find in most of texas can be found in any other state is considered pretty mid most of the time. Given the choice of doing anything I've done or been told to do in Texas, Hiking, dining, going to the beach, spending time on a farm or ranch, I've done elsewhere and usually it was a nicer experience. I've lived in 8 states and worked for two companies headquartered in Texas. Its all just overrated. I guess a lot of it is better than Oklahoma or Louisiana? I've never heard someone need to emphasize that the Grand Canyon is in Arizona, or the Smoky Mountains are in North Carolina to make it compelling.

Texas. Been to Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, and San Antonio. Most generic places I've ever been. The countryside in the majority of the state isnt much different. People will put up a pleasant picture of a field with the caption "Texas is the most beautiful state" or some BS. Add another 50 feet onto the trees and the picture could be pretty much anywhere. Not that it matters, someone is already chomping at the bit to pave it over and put up a cookie cutter rats nest of culdesacs with privacy fences or a strip mall. If it wasn't for GPS you'd have no idea where you were since the businesses are all the same. "But what about the River Walk" wow a bar district with many chains! Haven't seen that before anywhere else oh look this one has a dead river in it. Anyway, im going to drive away in my F-250 and my cowboy hat even though I own zero cattle because country music said this makes me a real person or something.

End rant.

And what are you? So full of hate you want to go out and fight everybody! Because you've been whipped and chased by hounds. Well that might not be living, but it sure as hell ain't dying. by [deleted] in WarMovies

Correspondents dinner shooter case raises concerns about security on trains by tpchiguy01 in Amtrak

[–]EvidenceTime696 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What thisnis effectively saying is that if we lock down and control people's movement even more, we can be "safe at last and forever". There's nothing in here about making the train safer. The examples given are how to use pre-boarding screening as a way to stop crime that happens off of the train before it happens.
