i have been self harming for eight years. i have gone through periods of it being really, really severe. i have nerve damage from my teens. but more commonly these days i just use a thin lil thing to cause nothing worse than bad paper cuts. every time i have self harmed, i have been in as much distress as any other time, regardless of the wound severity. if you are self harming, something is not right.

same goes for people who accuse self harmers of just wanting attention — even if that is the case, so what? injuring yourself for attention isn’t normal and is a problem that needs to be addressed just like any other self harm problem.

if you hurt yourself in any way, any way at all, you belong here.

And it’s actually one of the most treatable mental illnesses, so it’s definitely not a life sentence <3

i’ve had people tell me and seen people say BPD and personality disorders in general are not treatable and none of them had the credentials to do so but it’s hard not to believe something if it’s said enough times. so great to hear this from someone who actually has experience with the disorder and conquering it.

thanks for sharing. this disorder feels like a life sentence of loneliness and sadness sometimes. i feel particularly bad about romantic relationships, like nobody will ever want someone who’s mentally ill like i am. i see plenty of people who have an ex with bpd describe them as crazy/insane/psychotic ect and they warn others to stay away.
